The Muscular System
Function of the system
The muscular system enables movement of your body and internal organs.
Types of Muscle tissue
voluntary muscle-muscles you have to think about to control
involuntary muscle- muscles that don’t require thought to function
A. There are three types of tissue in the body. Skeletal, smooth, cardiac
1. Skeletal Muscles-muscle that attach to the bones of your skeleton and provide the force that moves your bones
-They are voluntary muscles andcan get tired quickly
2. Smooth Muscles- are the muscles that make up most of you organs. Like your stomach.
-after you eat the muscle of your stomach contract, moving the food around to help it digest.
-They are inventory muscles anddo not get tired out.
3. Cardiac Muscles are founded only in the heart.
-They are involuntary and do not get tired.
Structures of the System
Tendons attach the skeletal muscles to the bone.
- tendons- are a strong connective tissue at the end of a muscle that connect to the bone.
Muscles on contract, shorten. Therefore muscles must work in pairs.
For example to bend the arm at the elbow the bi-cept contracts.
And in order to return the arm and bi-cept to its original shape the tri-cept has to contract.
