Proposals

Do you have an idea but need money to implement it?

The Virginia Education Association is proud to provide mini-grants to support members’ ideas designed to improve student learning.

We invite you to submit your proposal for a VEA mini-grant for any amount up to $500.

Proposal Guidelines

  1. You must be a member of the Virginia Education Association to apply for the mini-grant, to receive the funds, and during implementation of the project. If your project is a team effort, you must all be and remain members of the Virginia Education Association.
  2. Do not use your name, the name of your local association, your school, your school division, or your locality anywhere in the proposal.
  3. Write your proposal following the proposal outline. Comply with these specific guidelines:
  1. No handwritten proposals will be accepted.
  2. Use a font no smaller than 12-point type. (This sentence is in 12 point type.) Maintain one-inch margins.
  3. Complete the cover sheet and attach it to the front of your proposal. Please send plain paper copies – no faxes, bound copies, or presentation folders.
  4. Complete the proposal identification form and attach it to the front of the packet.
  5. All entries must be received by the VEA no later than 4:30 PM on the deadline date, October 2, 2015.

  6. Winners will be required to submit an interim and a final report on their progress.
  7. If your proposal is funded, you will be notified by October 23, 2015. Winning proposals may be published in VEA publications.
  8. Mini-grant awards will be limited to one grant per person/team per school year.

Proposal Outline

All proposals must include the following:

  1. Title of the project
  2. Brief project description: In a short paragraph, not to exceed 100 words, please answer the following questions:
  1. What do you want to do?
  2. How does it improve student learning?
  3. What are the purpose and anticipated outcomes of the project? Please show correlation between proposal and K-12 curriculum.
  4. What unique need is targeted by this project?
  1. Budget: Itemize projected costs of the proposal. A bulleted list is preferred. State the total of the proposed budget.
  2. Activities: Briefly describe what you and your students will do. (A bulleted list will suffice.)
  3. Evaluation: In a paragraph, not to exceed 100 words, tell us how you will measure the success of your project.

Selection Criteria

Mini-grant winners will be selected in a blind screening by the VEA Instruction and Professional Development Committee. The committee will use the following scale to score each of the criteria listed below.

Checklist Before Sending

Mini-Grant Application

(Do not include this page with your proposal.

You and each person in your group are VEA members.
Proposal is not handwritten.
Proposal is double-spaced(including any bulleted items and your totaled budget).
The font is at least 12 point.
Margins are 1 inch.
No proper names are used within the proposal. You have not identified yourself, your education association, your school, or your school division.
The proposal identification sheet is the first page of your packet.
Page 2, the cover sheet is complete.
All necessary signatures have been obtained – all group members, including project coordinator, school administrator/supervisor, and VEA association representative.
Proofread, proofread, and then have someone not attached to the project proofread!
Faxes are not allowed; neither are bound copies or presentation folders.
Entries must be received by 4:30 PM on October 2, 2015.

Failure to adhere to all of the guidelines will result in disqualification of your entry.
