Social English 1 - Intros & Small talk!

What is Social English?

In this course Social English means learning how to say the right thing in the right situation! Many Korean students can speak English quite well but they have never been to England! Sentences which might sound good inside your head, might make a native speaker feel uncomfortable, or make him laugh or even offend him! On this course we’ll look at what to say in many different situations!

Situation 1 Your Korean friend invites you downtown for lunch. When you meet her, she is with a foreigner! This is her new hagwon English teacher. She has invited him to lunch too!
Anyway, you all sit down to have lunch in a Korean restaurant, when suddenly your friend’s mobile phone goes off and she apologises and rushes off. She explains that it’s an important call. She broke up with her boyfriend a few weeks ago and now he’s on the phone and wants to get back together with her! This is going to be a long phone call!
The problem is you are now stuck in this restaurant with this strange (but handsome!) foreign guy with blue eyes and brown hair. What should you say? He can’t speak Korean. You will just have to try to talk to him in English!
