1.4   SUBMITTALS

A.   Submit under provisions of Section 01 30 00 - Administrative Requirements.

B.   Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:

1.   Preparation instructions and recommendations.

2.   Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.

3.   Installation methods.

C.   Shop Drawings: Coordinate with the Contractor and Architect to ensure masonry accessories are properly represented.

D.   LEED Submittals: Provide product data to document recycled content.

E.   Verification Samples: For each product to be provided, two samples, minimum size 6 inches (150 mm) square representing actual product including thickness.

1.5   QUALITY ASSURANCE

A.   Manufacturer Qualifications: Minimum 5 years experience manufacturing similar products.

1.   Manufacturer shall be a member of the Brick Industry Association (BIA).

B.   Installer Qualifications: Minimum 2 years experience installing similar products.

C.   Mock-Up: Coordinate with the Contractor to provide masonry accessories for use in exterior wall mockups to evaluate installation techniques and workmanship.

1.   Install work in areas designated by Architect.

2.   Do not proceed with remaining work until workmanship is approved by Architect.

3.   Refinish mock-up area as required to produce acceptable work.

1.6   PRE-INSTALLATION MEETINGS

A.   Convene minimum two weeks prior to starting work of this section.

1.7   DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A.   Deliver products in manufacturer's unopened packaging bearing the brand name and manufacturer's identification until ready for installation.

B.   Store products in clean, dry, sheltered area off the ground until ready for use.

C.   Protect products from exposure to direct sunlight and rain.

D.   Handle materials to avoid damage.

1.8   PROJECT CONDITIONS

A.   Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's recommended limits.

1.9   SEQUENCING

A.   Ensure that products of this section are supplied to affected trades in time to prevent interruption of construction progress.

1.10   WARRANTY

A.   Manufacturers Product Warranty: Provide manufacturer's standard warranty products are free from manufacturing defects and will not break down or deteriorate under normal conditions.

PART 2 PRODUCTS

2.1   MANUFACTURERS

B.   Substitutions: Not permitted.

C.   Requests for substitutions will be considered in accordance with provisions of Section 01 60 00 - Product Requirements.

2.2   Insulation system

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** A high functioning masonry drainage system is required to achieve maximum thermal efficiencies and reduce maintenance and repair costs. Mortar obstructions and droppings which impede drainage are prevented by installing full-height CavClear Insulation System. Cavity wall insulation system with integral masonry mat is designed to prevent mortar dropping, mold, mildew and other moisture related failures, and mortar bridges, while maintaining air space and wall cavity drainage and minimizing thermal and moisture transfer between wythes.

A.   CavClear Insulation System: Mortar bridging masonry drainage mat factory bonded to rigid cavity wall insulation. The masonry drainage mat shall be non-woven textile product in random pattern and have voids no greater than 1/4 inch (6 mm) in diameter, fluid conducting, non-absorbent, mold and mildew resistant polymer mesh consisting of 100% recycled plastic with binder. Insulation system is to be designed for substantially continuous installation behind the full-height of all masonry.

1.   Provide with the following insulation type:

a.   Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) to ASTM C578, Type IV.

b.   Polyisocyanurate to ASTM C591.

c.   Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) to ASTM C578.

d.   Rigid Mineral Wool to ASTM C612.

2.   Provide sheets the following size:

a.   16 by 96 inch (406 by 2438 mm).

b.   48 by 96 inch (1219 by 2438 mm).

3.   Provide with the following CavClear Masonry Matt thickness, allowing no more than 3/8 inch (10 mm) tolerance between the masonry mat and masonry wythe:

a.   3/8 inch (9.5 mm) for a total thickness of ______.

b.   1/2 inch (12.7 mm) for a total thickness of ______.

c.   3/4 inch (19 mm) for a total thickness of ______.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Masonry drainage mat is designed for air space maintenance, mortar dropping prevention and drainage system for masonry cavities. Delete if not used or if specified with insulation system above.

2.3   Masonry DRAINAGE mat

A.   CavClear Masonry Drainage Mat: Full-height air space maintenance and cavity drainage mat specifically designed for substantially continuous installation behind the full-height of all masonry cavities to prevent mortar from making contact with the backup construction and ensure moisture management. The masonry mat shall be non-woven textile product in random pattern and have voids no greater than 1/4 inch (6 mm) in diameter, fluid conducting, non-absorbent, mold and mildew resistant polymer mesh consisting of 100% recycled plastic with binder.

1.   Provide mats the following size:

a.   16 by 96 inch (406 by 2438 mm).

b.   48 by 96 inch (1219 by 2438 mm).

2.   Provide in the following thickness, allowing no more than 3/8 inch (10 mm) tolerance between the masonry mat and masonry wythe:

a.   1/2 inch (12.7 mm).

b.   3/4 inch (19 mm).

c.   1 inch (25.4 mm).

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Masonry drainage mat MD unique configuration provide uniformity and structural integrity to stand up to the weight of mortar. 90 percent open mesh allows for proper air movement and drainage. Delete if not required.

2.4   Masonry DRAINAGE mat MD

A.   CavClear Masonry Drainage Mat MD: Mortar deflection device is manufactured of non-absorbent polymer mesh of 100 percent recycled plastic. used in conjunction with standard masonry cavity walls at flashing locations, such as composite, single wythe and veneer applications. The molded polymer core geometric design allows moisture to seep down through any mortar droppings and weep out of the wall through mortar free weep vents.

1.   Dimensions: 11 inch (279 mm) wide by 60 inch (1524 mm) long.

2.   Provide in the following thickness, allowing no more than 3/8 inch (10 mm) tolerance between the masonry mat and masonry wythe:

a.   1 inch (25.4 mm).

b.   2 inch (50 mm).

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** It is important to design and construct an effective rainscreen system that will provide a means for drainage and ventilation. Moisture will find its way into exterior wall systems by way of gaps, penetrations, cracks in the surface of the cladding material, and cracked mortar joints. Since it provides the drainage and ventilation function for the system, CavClear® Rainscreen Drainage Mat is an integral part of a successful rainscreen wall design. CavClear Rainscreen Drainage Mat is designed to be installed behind manufactured or thinset stone, stucco, cedar and lap siding applications to manage moisture and vapor. Delete if not required.

2.5   Rainscreen DRAINAGE Mat

A.   CavClear Drainage Rainscreen Mat: 95 percent open design creates a continuous capillary break and channel for moisture to drain and accelerate drying exterior cladding assemblies. Durable polymer material is resistant to most known corrosive chemicals and does not provide a food source for mold or mildew. 2-ply design features a backer fabric to improve tensile and compressive strength and serve as an integrated insect screen.

1.   Core Material: Polypropylene.

2.   Dimensions: 1/4 inch (6 mm) thick, 61.5 foot (18.75 m) long rolls, 39 inch (99 cm) wide, to cover 200 square feet (18.58 square meters) and the following properties:

a.   Density, Specific Gravity: 0.901 g/cm3 per ASTM D792, Method A.

b.   Porosity, Open Space: 93.8 percent.

c.   Hydraulic Transmissivity: 3.70 gpm / ft width per ASTM D4716.

d.   Air Transmissivity: 15.8 cu. ft./min.ft width per ASTM D4716.

e.   Flame Spread and Smoke Index: Class A Fire Rated per ASTM E84.

3.   Dimensions: 3/8 inch (10 mm) thick, 40 foot (12.19 m) long rolls, 39 inch (99 cm) wide, to cover 130 square feet (12.08 square meters) and the following properties:

a.   Density, Specific Gravity: 0.903 g/cm3 per ASTM D792, Method A.

b.   Porosity, Open Space: 95.3 percent.

c.   Hydraulic Transmissivity: 7.01 gpm / ft width per ASTM D4716.

d.   Air Transmissivity: 54.5 cu. ft./min.ft width per ASTM D4716.

e.   Flame Spread and Smoke Index: Class A Fire Rated per ASTM E84.

2.6   Weep vents

A.   CavClear Weep Vents: Non-woven mesh with M-notched bottom.

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Select color. If more than one color is used assign types to correspond with mortar color designations. Delete colors not used.

1.   Provide the following color to match mortar:

a.   White.

b.   Manila.

c.   Harvest Gold.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1   EXAMINATION

A.   Do not begin installation until substrates have been properly prepared.

B.   If substrate preparation is the responsibility of another installer, notify Architect of unsatisfactory preparation before proceeding.

3.2   PREPARATION

A.   Clean surfaces thoroughly prior to installation.

B.   Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

3.3   INSTALLATION

** NOTE TO SPECIFIER ** Delete if not required.

A.   Insulation System Installation:

1.   Install insulation system continuously in exterior masonry cavities during construction of the exterior wythe.

2.   Install horizontally between wall ties or joint reinforcement.

3.   Stagger end joints in adjacent rows.

4.   Butt adjacent pieces to moderate contact.

5.   Fit to perimeter construction and penetrations without voids.
