Disaster on Sally

Chapter 1

It was routine patrol for the crew of submarine Sally. “All systems in check,” said Robinson. He was the ship’s technology guy.

“Good” said the Captain. That’s when it happened; a loud boom filled the ship and rocked the crew.

“What was that!?” yelled Robinson.

“Robinson! Are there any enemy ships on the sonar?” asked the Captain.

“The sonar is detecting nothing, Sir,” said Robinson.

“Well something had to cause it. Kartson and Griffin, go and investigate,” said the Captain.

“Yes Sir,” said the two men. The two men traveled to the source of the explosion. The engine room was in shambles. There were also many bodies laid about on the floor. The two men searched for the reason of the explosion and before they could find anything, a loud yell filled the corridors.

“Now what?” said the Captain. He decided to investigate himself. He checked all the rooms but could not seem to find the source of the yell. He returned to the Captain’s post and called for all crew members to report to the main deck.

Chapter 2

To the Captain’s disbelief, less then half the crew arrived at the main deck. The Captain was a quiet man and didn’t talk about anything outside his military life. He was a middle sized man but he was capable of taking down the largest opponents in hand-to-hand combat.

“Where is the rest of my crew?” the Captain asked.

“Most of the crew was caught in the explosion in the engine room. Most of the bodies were in there,” said Griffin, Griffin was a very large man and very muscular but wasn’t very intelligent.

“What was most of my crew doing in the engine room?” asked the Captain.

“I don’t know, Sir” said Griffin.

“I want you to go back to the engine room and find who was not caught in the explosion and is still missing, Kartson I want you to investigate further into the explosion of the engine room and see if you can make any repairs, and Robinson, send a distress beacon to any nearby ships,” said the Captain.

“Yes Sir,” said the three men. Kartson and Griffin traveled to the engine room while Robinson worked on the distress beacon.

“Kelly and Mark, I need you to scout the rest of the sub and see if you can’t find any other possibilities of the explosion in the engine room,” said the Captain.

“Sir what are you saying?” asked Kelly, Kelly wasn’t an average women. She could take down any man on the ship besides the captain.

“We have to be prepared for anything and there may be the possibility of sabotage. There weren’t any nearby ships and if the engine room was set off manually then we have a hostile on board and he must be dealt with as quickly as possible. There may have been other causes but we must be concerned with this first,” said the Captain.

“Yes Sir,” said Kelly.

“I want you two to arm yourselves in case of any danger and to travel together to remain safe,” said the Captain.

“What about Kartson and Griffin? Won’t they need weapons?” asked Mark, Mark is a big headed person. He claims he can take anyone down but never actually proves he can.

“They are both very skilled in combat and have pistols. They should be fine,” said the Captain.

“Ok” said Mark.

“Oh yes, one more thing. There was a yell that came from the bunker room. I went to investigate myself but found nothing. I need both of you to go and investigate further,” said the Captain. They both armed themselves and then went in search of any clues to the happening of the explosion.

Chapter 3

“Do you want to go check the bunker room first?” asked Mark.

“Yeah that would probably be best,” said Kelly. The two headed to the bunker room.

“I wonder what the Captain heard?” asked Kelly.

“I’m pretty sure he was just hearing things,” said Mark.

“Probably,” said Kelly.

The two arrived at the bedroom and began searching. After a little while of searching Mark began to think the captain was just hearing things.

“Did you find anything, Kelly?” asked Mark

“Not yet,” said Kelly.

“Did you check the closet?”

“No but I’ll go check it now,” She walked over to the closet and opened. She gasped with disbelief as a body fell out.

Chapter 4

“Griffin, did you find anything?” asked Kartson, Kartson is the ship’s engineer but can also fight if he has to. He is a very large man and would intimidate anyone he fought.

“Nothing so far, how about you?” asked Griffin

“Actually I did find something, come take a look,” Griffin goes over to the engine.

“It wasn’t the engine itself that caused the explosion it was a hole punctured in the submarine’s hull that caused water to fill in the engine making it explode.”

“Will it be repairable?”

“I’m not sure yet, there was a lot of damage and I would need to drain the water to be able to get it operational. I also need to fix the hole in the hull.”

“How do you think the hole got there?”

“I’m not sure.”

“Aren’t you just full of answers.”

“Shut up and try to figure what most of the crew was doing here,” but before he could respond the fire alarm was set off.

“Quick, get the fire extinguisher and let’s go find the fire!” said Kartson. The two men traveled around the entire ship but didn’t find any sign of fire.

“There doesn’t seem to be a fire any where on board. Must have been a false alarm,” said Kartson. At that moment they arrived at the bunker room were they found Mark and Kelly bent over something on the floor.

“What are you looking at?” asked Griffin.

“Come and look,” said Mark. Kartson and Griffin came over to look but stopped in their tracks at first sight of what they were looking at.

“Oh my god!” yelled Griffin.

“Which crew member is it?” asked Kartson.

“It’s Sam,” said Kelly.

“What was the cause of death?” asked Griffin, as he was shaking

“Stabbed in the chest, most likely with a large hunting knife,” said Mark.

“Does anyone have a hunting knife onboard?” asked Kartson.

“I believe Robinson used to be a hunter,” said Kelly.

“He is always bragging about an 8 point buck he got once,” said Mark.

“Well then let’s go get him before he kills someone else,” said Griffin.

“No, we don’t know for sure if he did it or not. Someone else could have taking his knife and used it for the murder. We don’t even know if he has a hunting knife on board,” said Kartson.

“Well then what do we do?” asked Griffin.

“We should tell the captain,” said Kelly.

“Yes, that would be a good idea,” said Mark.

“What should we do with the body?” asked Kelly.

“We leave it here in till further notice,” said Kartson.

“What about the knife, did the murderer leave it behind by any chance?” asked Griffin.

“No we checked the entire room,” said Mark.

“There were no signs of blood in the room or the corridors?” asked Kartson.

“None that we found,” said Kelly

“Then the killer may still have the knife so we need to be on guard,” said Kartson.

“He probably just dumped it somewhere else,” said Griffin.

“Yeah, but maybe not, we can never be sure,” said Kelly.

“What about the possibility of suicide? There doesn’t seem to be any signs of struggle,” asked Kartson.

“Who stabs themselves in the chest to commit suicide?” asked Griffin.

“Sam may have,” said Kelly. She has known Sam for many years and this would not surprise Kelly with his unstable personality. He didn’t like it here on the sub.

“I don’t think it was a form of suicide, the trajectory of the knife doesn’t appear to be self inflicted,” Kartson.

“We can settle all this when we get back to the Captain.” said Griffin.

“Wait what about the fire alarm that went off?” asked Kartson.

“It doesn’t seem to be a problem right now.” said Mark

“If there was a fire, then what were you two doing in the bedroom still? Shouldn’t you have tried to get to a safe area or put out the fire?” asked Griffin

“We thought you had it under control,” said Kelly. “and apparently you did.”

“Well then maybe we shouldn’t be standing here and arguing and get out of here,” said Mark.

“Mark’s right, we should go,” said Kelly.

“Ok” said Griffin with suspicion. All the crew members then traveled

to the main deck to talk to the Captain.

“Status report,” said the Captain.

“We found the dead body of Sam in the bedroom closet, Sir,” said Kelly.

“What?! What was the cause of death?” asked the Captain

“Knife incision in the chest, most likely a large hunting knife that was dealt from another person or in other words, murder,” said Kelly.

“So we have a murderer on board?” asked the Captain

“Most likely, Sir,” said Kelly.

“Well then we can’t wait any longer and let him plan his next move. I want you all to go in pairs of two and fan out once more to find any signs of a murderer,” said the Captain.

“Well the murderer may be one of us, Sir,” suggested Mark.

“Are you sure?” asked the Captain

“Some of the clues at the murder scene matched the possibilities of some of the crew on board,” said Griffin.

“Well then, we are in a tough situation. I need all of you to be put in pairs and watch your partner at all cost. If your partner needs to go to the bathroom you must got to the bathroom with them. Do you understand?” asked the Captain.

“Yes Sir,” said all of the crew.

“Pair up with your search partners. Once that is done I will need you to be on guard. Do not let our guard down for one second. I will also need you to resume regular protocol,” said the Captain.

“Yes Sir,” said the crew.

“Dismissed,” said the Captain.

Chapter 5

All the crew fanned out to continue normal protocol, all of them nervously watching each other. Mark and Kelly were investigating further into the death of Sam. They were searching for clues inside the closet or any other wounds on the body.

“Find anything?” asked Mark

“Not yet, how about you?” asked Kelly

“Nope, keep investigating the body. I’m going to check the halls.”

“We aren’t supposed to leave each others sights,” said Kelly.

“I’ll be fine,” said Mark.

“Alright.” said Kelly, with a hesitant voice, splitting up made her nervous. After a while of searching, Kelly wanted to check on Mark. Kelly called out for Mark but didn’t get an answer. She went out to check for Mark and when she did she felt a piercing pain in her side and then in her back. She gasped and fell to the floor while getting a glimpse of Mark dead on the floorat the end of the corridor and the grin of the murderer before her world disappeared forever.

Chapter 6

“Robinson, how is the status of the ship?” asked the Captain.

“Fine Sir,” said Robinson.

“Good.” said the Captain. Before the Captain could speak again they heard Griffin yelling for help. The Captain immediately responded by telling Robinson to stay were he was and then the captain armed himself and raced down the corridor to find Griffin, terrified, as he was looking at two of his crew members.

“What happened here?” asked the Captain.

“I don’t know, I just came down here to check on Mark and Kelly and they were lying on the floor, dead,” said Griffin.

“Did you see anybody running from the scene?” asked the Captain

“No Sir,” said Griffin. The Captain investigated the bodies and found knife incisions in both bodies. Griffin went and investigated the surrounding area. The Captain couldn’t find any further clues to the murder of Mark and Kelly but then the Captain noticed something; Griffin wasn’t with Kartson like he was suppose to.

“Griffin!” the Captain yelled. There was no response. The Captain then knew that Robinson may be the only person left on board and he was in danger. The captain raced down the corridors to go and find Robinson. Robinson was checking the monitors as usual. Robinson was startled when the Captain raced in.

“What’s the matter sir?” asked Robinson curiously.

“Come with me quickly and grab a gun,” ordered the Captain.

“What’s the ma…”

“Now!” the Captain demanded. Robinson quickly grabbed a gun and raced down the corridors with the Captain. They arrived at the engine room to find Griffin bent over Kartson on the floor. The Captain immediately pulled out his gun and aimed it directly at Griffin.

“No sir it’s not what it looks like!” said Griffin in a panic.

“Why did you do it Gri…” The Captain couldn’t finish his sentence before feeling a sharp pain in his back and chest. When the Captain looked down he saw the knife in his chest. He fell to his knees. Griffin no longer had the look of being scared but instead had a big grin on his face.

“Good job Robinson,” said Griffin, “I can’t wait for the pay.”

“About that,” said Robinson. Robinson withdrew his gun and shot Griffin in the head. Griffin fell to the ground without moving and Robinson holstered his gun.

“I don’t split the pay,” said Robinson.

“Why did you do it Robinson?” asked the Captain barely able to speak

“It’s all about the money,” said Robinson.

“Who hired you?” asked the Captain

“Some terrorist seeking revenge for his dead brother or something. I don’t really care

“How are you going to be able to get out of here? The sub can’t move.”

“An evac sub will be here shortly.”

“They are going to be disappointed when they get here,” murmured the Captain.

“Why is that?” asked Robinson. The Captain quickly withdrew his gun and shot Robinson. He let out a cry and fell against the wall. Robinson went for his gun but before he could grab it another bullet entered his chest. He had one final gasp of air before going limp and lifeless.

The Captain knew that he wasn’t going to live. His injuries were too severe. He pulled the knife from his chest ensuring a faster death. He gave one finally wish that his family would stay safe and healthy before everything went black forever.

Epilogue

The evac sub arrived at the sub and boarded the ship to find every one dead. The leader didn’t mind, he was just glad that his brother could now rest in peace. Before the terrorist group could leave though a large American sub responded to the distress beacon given by the sub Sally. The terrorist sub attempted to flee but was quickly eliminated. The American sub then also went to investigate the sub.

The sub returned to the nearest military outpost and informed them of the elimination of the crew of submarine Sally. All the families were informed of there loses and the bodies that were retrieved from the sub had a military burial in the home state. The government was soon informed of how they died from a spy position in Iraq. The crew of submarine Sally will forever be remembered for their bravery.
