The Bar Convent is conveniently situated in central York, close to Micklegate. Most tourist attractions, shops and museums as well as the River Ouse are all only a short walk away.
Travelling by Road
The Bar Convent is located just outside the Micklegate Bar on the South West side of the city of York with good motorway links from the M1 and A1. If approaching the city from the south, east or west the A64 and A1036 are the roads to follow.
From the north, use the A19 and A59, then the York Ring Road to avoid the city centre. You will then follow the A1036 into Micklegate Bar.
From the A1036 follow the signs for York Race Course, which you will pass on your right hand side, and then follow the signs for the railway station until the city walls/Micklegate Bar are directly in front of you. At the traffic lights the Bar Convent will be on your right. To park turn right at the traffic lights and then left into the nearest car park on Nunnery Lane.
Car Parking
There is a Pay & Display Long Stay car park just opposite the Bar Convent on Nunnery Lane. Please note that the car parking machines only take coins and do not give change. However, this car park now has facilities to Park and Pay by phone on arrival. The number to call is 0870 428 3854. Quote location number 7709 and you will be able to select the number of hours you wish to pay for using your credit/debit card. All day charges are £9.50 and £2.00 overnight.
If this car park is full then alternative parking is available at the railway station.
Park and Ride
There is an excellent Park and Ride bus service from Askham Bar (A1036 south) which stops directly outside the Convent.
Travelling by Rail
For those who arrive by Rail, the station is five minutes walk from here. Turn right out of the station and walk towards the traffic lights. The Bar Convent is across the lights on the corner of Nunnery Lane and Blossom Street.
