DIGITRUST PRIVACY POLICY
Last Updated: March 316, 2016
DigiTrust, operated by Cookie Trust Working Group, Inc.[link to “about us” page], is an independent cooperative of companies aiming to improve the consumer experience as they view content over the Internet. In particular, DigiTrust creates a single identifier that can be used by its members, reducing the need for third parties to create independent identifiers on their own—in other words, getting these third parties to speak a common language, without requiring them to coordinate independently (which can slow down loading of websites, and generally requires each company to install cookies on every user’s device). DigiTrust is also committed to transparency, and we want you to fully understand how we may collect, use, and share data relating to you, and the choices that are available to you. This privacy policy governs DigiTrust’s collection and use of data on websites and apps that use the DigiTrust technology, including its proprietary identifier. This privacy policy also governs the collection and use of data on our website (http://www.digitru.st).
InformationWe Collect
When you visit a website that uses DigiTrust technology, our technology generates a proprietary identifier for your device (the “DigiTrust ID”). The DigiTrust ID is stored on your device in the form of a “cookie,” which is a data file that includes the DigiTrust ID in text form. For more information about cookies, including how to delete cookies, please visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org. We do not store the DigiTrust ID ourselves—it is only stored on your device, and transmitted to DigiTrust members as described below. Separately, when you visit the DigiTrust website, we may collect information about you and how you access or use the DigiTrust website (“User Information”).
How We Use Information
DigiTrust does not use your DigiTrust ID itself. Rather, it generates the DigiTrust ID for the sole purpose of providing it to DigiTrust members. DigiTrust members may use the DigiTrust ID for a number of purposes, including to provide you with targeted advertising using information about you that the member has collected from elsewhere (separate and apart from DigiTrust), and to generate analytics regarding your use of the website implementing the DigiTrust technology. For more information about how targeted advertising works, you can visit the Network Advertising Initiative’s (“NAI”) educational page athttp://www.networkadvertising.org/understanding-online-advertising/how-does-it-work.
In terms of User Information that we collect through the DigiTrust website, we may use that information to contact you, including regarding joining or applying to join DigiTrust as a member. We also may use this information to generate analytics about usage of our website, to allow us to operate and improve our site, and to prepare reports that summarize visitor activity. We will not use this information for purposes of targeted advertising.
Sharing of Information
We may directly or indirectly share information about you with others, including DigiTrust members that may consist of advertisers, advertising agencies, and website and app publishers, for a variety of reasons. For example:
· The DigiTrust ID is shared by our members, who may use it for a number of reasons, including to provide you with targeted advertising.
· We may share User Information for legal, protection, security, and safety purposes, including:
· to comply with laws or regulatory requirements and to respond to lawful requests and legal process;
· to protect the rights and property of DigiTrust, our agents, members, and others, including enforcing our agreements, policies, and terms of use and protecting our network and physical assets; and/or
· in an emergency, including protecting the safety of our employees and agents, our customers, or any person.
· We may share information with parties who may use that information to provide us with services or do work for us.
InformationOur Members Collect
DigiTrust members and other third parties who use the DigiTrust technology may use their own cookies or other similar technologies (or those of their other affiliates) within their advertisements or on certain websites. These members maintain their own privacy policies and processes. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of members that use our technology.
Your Opt-Out Choices
There are many ways to opt-out of the use of DigiTrust technology to generate and transmit the DigiTrust ID. First, you can directly opt-out at the following website: http://www.digitru.st/about-this-notice/. Second, if you opt-out of targeted advertising from any DigiTrust member, for example by using any of the industry opt-out pages located at http://www.networkadvertising.org/choices/ or http://www.aboutads.info/choices/, the member will transmit your opt-out decision to us, and, upon receiving this information, you will also be opted out of the use of DigiTrust technology, the same way you would be if you opted-out directly on our website.
If you opt-out, the next time you visit a website using DigiTrust technology, DigiTrust members will no longer receive your previous DigiTrust ID. Please note that our opt-out operates by placing a cookie on your device that is unique to the browser and device you use to opt-out. If you change browsers or computers, or delete the cookies on your computer, you will need to opt-out again.
Security
We use many different measures to help protect information transmitted over or stored on our systems. No transmission of information, however, is guaranteed to be completely secure. In particular, we cannot guarantee that your data will not be disclosed, altered, or accessed accidentally, or through unlawful or unauthorized acts of others.
Changes
We may update this privacy policy from time to time in order to reflect, for example, changes to our practices or for other operational, legal or regulatory reasons. If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will notify you of any material changes by posting the revised policy on this website, and where appropriate, by other means.
