JUNE STEWARDSHIP FOCUS—LSSM

Lutheran Social Services of Michigan

This month we highlight the work of Lutheran Social Services of Michigan. LSSM creates communities of service and it is the largest faith-based social service organization in the state. Through the work of LSSM, support is given to people in need, offering hope and compassion while upholding their dignity, advocating for equality and justice and seeking creative solutions.

A social ministry of the EvangelicalLutheranChurch in America (ELCA), LSSM is not just for Lutherans. The church has been meeting people’s needs since the early 1900’s when a Lutheran” city missionary” arrived in Detroit to provide services to the poor. From the beginning, Lutheran Social Services has reached out to individuals regardless of their religion, race, ethnicity or national origin.

As we focus on LSSM throughout June, we encourage you to continue donating items to stock the kitchen for LSSM. You may also choose to give a monetary offering to LSSM (special envelopes can be found on the narthex counter).

LSSM’s mission statement is “Serving people as an expression of the love of Christ”—a worthy calling indeed for each of us.

CARING COMMITTEE AND VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL MISSIONS

Young adults, families and refugees beginning a new life are in need of the supplies to help them successfully achieve this goal. Please help them by participating in our STOCK THE KITCHEN DRIVE. We are coordinating this service project with the support of our JuneVacationBibleSchool. They will also be asked to bring items to stock the kitchen during the week-long VBS program. Items needed—Cooking utensils, wooden spoons, measuring spoons, spatulas, hot pads, oven mitts, measuring cups, mixing bowls, small baking dishes, cookie sheets, muffin pans, dish towels, and anything else that you can think of that is used in the kitchen. These items can be new or gently used.

Last Sunday to bring in items is June 21st.

QUARTERS FOR JUNE 28TH

A CHRISTMAS PRESENT TO THOSE IN NEED

On Sunday, June 28, we will be collecting quarters!

Our quarters will be given to the managers of the

apartment complexes in our immediate

neighborhood. This money will be provided

as a gift to apartment residents to cover the

cost of their laundry during the month of

July. Some of the residents face numerable

challenges. This is one small way in which we can do a form of ministry that will make

a difference in people’s lives, a marked difference in our neighbor’s lives. The money that we collect on June 28 will be matched by designated funds from our congregation. So, bring in the quarters so we can celebrate and live into the good news of Christmas, Christmas in July.

ANNOUNCING NEW MEMBER CLASS JULY 11TH

AND

NEW MEMBER SUNDAY JULY 12TH

In preparation for New Member Sunday, there will be a gathering for new members on Saturday, July 11th at 10:00 a.m. Brunch will be served at 11:00 a.m. Church Council members and Committee chairs are invited for brunch to welcome those joining our Faith community.

Faith Lutheran is back on the calendar at Loaves and Fishes homeless shelter!!

Faith will be responsible for filling the two

volunteer spots (from 6-10pm) on the third

Sunday of each month.

If you are interested or would like to know

more about what this involves, please talk
