DESCRIPTION FOR TIMEBANK HOST

TIMEBANKS FOR THE VISUAL SECTOR IN THE TEES VALLEY

We are looking to recruit a visual arts agency in the Tees Valley region, to engage and sustain knowledge transfer through a Creative Timebank.

Duration; February 2012-March 2013

Reporting to; Turning Point North East CPD and Steering Group

Supported by; Sue Ball/MAAP and Sarah Spanton/Waymarking, cultural consultants and initiators of Leeds’ Creative Timebank

RESPONSIBILITIES AT AN ORGANISATIONAL LEVEL

To provide overall project management and co-ordination for the set-up, administration, communication and evaluation of a timebank in your locality. To identify personnel within your organisation, or to recruit, as a ‘timebroker’.

§  to undertake induction activities within your organisation to understand the model and its potential for your agency and the wider visual arts sector in your locality

§  to set up a timebank and run a small pilot supported by a ‘timebroker’ from within your agency or specifically appointed

§  run an event to launch and recruit new members to the timebank in the Spring and run 3 further social events intermittently to allow members to meet and discuss the programme. (Funds available in addition to fee)

§  create content for your timebank website

§  evaluate the progress and outcomes of the project on a quarterly basis in accessible ways, sharing learning between the two timebanks, with The CPD Group and external evaluation consultant, Annabel Jackson Assocs.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE TIMEBROKER

Engagement and Communication

§  to advocate for the timebank and be one of its pioneers

§  engage pilot participants, informing them of the potential of the timebank

§  offer information and protocol regarding the pilot phase and timebank usage

§  set up two small events to support information flow and review and to strengthen the network of practitioners using the service

§  co-ordinate the branding and marketing of the timebank, ideally utilising time-bank members

§  seek PR opportunities at project completion

Feedback, monitoring and evaluation

§  set up simple systems to evidence uptake and patterns of usage

§  set up two events (see under Engagement and Communication)

§  share practice with the other timebank

Administration

-  to regularly access the Timebanking On-line database, inputting data on skills, data on members and ongoingly maintenance

-  extend the given creative professional skills list according to their membership

-  register time-bankers onto the system using the skills list, and interpret and log individual specialisms

-  keep the exchanges between participants efficient and timely

Reporting

§  attend 4 meetings with the CPD group

§  input into a Potential Regional Conference in March 2013 on skills exchange.

ORGANISATIONAL RESOURCING

The organisation will need to ensure that their timebroker is resourced with a laptop and the database software. The timebroker can work on a roving basis but must be required to undertake the equivalent of one day per week in supporting the timebank, preferably dispersed over the working week to ensure regular and consistent contact with members.

CONTRACT

The contract is £4000 (including VAT) to be concluded on March 2013.

There is a small working budget to cover the costs of 4 events (up to £1000) and the licence for Timebank Online (£150) which will be held by Turning Point North East.

We are looking to work with organisations that would bring additional resources (staff, time, space, equipment) to the project.

We are requesting that organisations forward an Expression of Interest, no more than 3 pages, outlining their interest and suitability in response to;

·  evidence of programmes of knowledge sharing and learning

·  organisational commitment to the project

·  understanding of the ethos and values of the project

·  any additionality that can be brought to the programme

·  legacy for the organisation and wider visual arts community

Selection will be judged on the written application and at interview.

SPECIFICATION

ESSENTIAL (ORGANISATIONAL)

-  demonstrable organisational commitment to the successful delivery of a timebank for knowledge and skills exchange for the visual arts sector

-  demonstrable understanding and engagement with the ethos and values of the project

-  evidence of understanding and contact with the local network of the visual arts sector

-  capacity to recruit and actively support a ‘timebroker’

-  evidence of programmes of knowledge sharing and learning within the sector

Essential (timebroker)

-  good communicator, written and spoken

-  good IT skills

-  good project management able to bring the project in to schedule and budget

-  ability to set up review mechanisms and to produce concise reports.

Desirable (timebroker)

-  experience of organising small scale events

-  experience of overseeing design and marketing
