DESENSITISATION CARE PATHWAY FOR CERVICAL SCREENING

Aug 24, 2009

I was wondering if anyone had a care pathway for cervical screening they would be willing to share or direct me to? I have had a referral for a lady who would like to have a smear but who will need some help to do so.
Thanks.

As a regional group covering Leicestershire, Northamptonshire & Rutland we have developed for sample (smear)takers a Best Practice in Cervical Screening Booklet for Women with Learning Disabilities and also an accessible booklet for the women themselves. If you would like to contact me direct we could share the work we have completed.

Hi
There is a photographic teaching pack developed by myself and Penny Tomlinson (another LD nurse) in conjunction with Cervical Screening Wales. It is available free to down load from Screening services website. There are slight differences between England and Wales eg ages of screening but still has lots of useful info for other areas of the country. You can access it here:-

In Camden we have an in-depth easy read information pack about cervical screening which we developed with local women with learning disabilities two years ago. If you would like to find out more, get in touch with Camden NHS screening manager, Maggie Luck, on The Department of Health has a booklet with guidance about screening and women with disabilities.
