Subject: FTA Section 5339 Bus & Bus-Related Facilities – SFY 2015

To: Public Transit Providers

The New Hampshire Department of Transportation, Bureau of Rail & Transit, announces the availability of funding from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Section 5339 Bus & Bus Facilities Program. This program is formula-funded through USDOT’s MAP-21 program and replaced the previous Section 5309 discretionary Capital Investment program. Program highlights include:

Funding availability: (includes Federal Fiscal Year 13 & 14 apportionments)

Statewide$2,497,500

Governor Small Urbanized Areas (combined)$ 851,327

Boston UZA (NH Split) $ 137,514

TOTAL FUNDING AVAILABLE$3,486,341

Eligible Subrecipients:

  • Public agencies or private nonprofit organizations engaged in public transportation, including those providing services open to a segment of the general public, as defined by age, disability, or low income.

Eligible Activities:

  • Capital projects to replace, rehabilitate and purchase buses, vans, and related equipment, and to construct bus-related facilities. (80% Federal, 20% Local)
  • Note: Agencies must identify 20% local match, but the State will try to identify up to 10% of the non-federal match, through State Capital Budget matching funds, for each project.

Application Deadlines

Any agency or company interested in participating in this program must submit an applicationvia email to the Bureau of Rail & Transit at the following deadlines:

  1. Letter of Intent to Apply and Project Summary (1st tab of Part II spreadsheet): August 1, 2014
  2. Completed application, including agency summary (Part I) and project details (remainder of tabs in Part II spreadsheet): August 15, 2014

The purpose of this two-phased application process is to allow the Department to determine the necessity of applying for FTA’s related 5309 Ladders of Opportunity Initiative grant funding based on total amount of 5339 funding applied for.
