YOUTH HOCKEY PROGRAMME

2011-2012

DERBYSHIRE HOCKEY ASSOCIATION

BOYS AND GIRLS JUNIOR SECTIONS 2011-12

The new England Hockey Board Single System for player development has been in place for 2 years. Initial results are very encouraging but it is a system that is still developing and we would welcome any feedback from coaches, teachers, parents or players.

There will be fourJunior Development Centres (JDCs) within the county to which all hockey players are invited.

These will be held at Repton/Foremark School, Anthony Gell School, Wirksworth, Buxton Community School and Sinfin Community School. Dates and times are in the booklet, except for Sinfin Community School which are to be confirmed.

The Centres will be led by Level 2 coaches and are the first rung on the ladder of the player pathway. The emphasis for the JDCs is skill development and players will have the opportunity to practise their skills in competition with neighbouring JDCs. Players will be assessed and possibly selected for progression to Junior Academy Centres (JACs). These will run after Christmas. The JACs replace the County teams and will compete with JACs from other Counties. Those players not progressing to JACs will be encouraged to continue with school and club hockey and will be provided with information on local activity until the JDCs begin again the following season. It is important that all junior players attend a JDC to progress through the system. There is no direct entry to the JACs unless a player is returning from a higher level. There is also no entry to JRPC without first attending the JAC.

Junior players wishing to attend a JDC should choose the one closest and most convenient for them and complete the registration form (attached as a separate document). If the dates for a local JDC aren’t convenient players are free to travel to another centre for their coaching either within Derbyshire or in a neighbouring County/Region. Please note that due to numbers all U16 & U17 Boys and Girls will attend the JDC at Wirksworth.

There will also be School competitions at U11, U13, U14, U16 and U18. More information is provided later in the booklet.

All schools and clubs wishing to participate in competitions must complete the affiliation form enclosed at the back of this booklet to ensure that the organisers have up to date information and contact details.

School’s Hockey 2011-2012

A lot of discussion has taken place and it would seem that most schools cannot honour every age group for boys and girls and that most schools would welcome the opportunity to get to know who else plays at their standard. Last season league opportunitieswere created but not utilised fully. This season nothing has been formally organised, but we have listed the names and contact details of schools so that you can initiate fixture conversations yourselves.

It is hoped that Chris Glover from Chellaston and other teacher/ hockey coaches will offer come and play sessions around the country during the season. These will be advertised when details have been confirmed.

Club Indoor Competition

To register interest in Clubs entering boys or girls U16 or U18 teams into National Competition please contact Andrew Hartley by September 2011.

Club Mini’s Competitions

These are organised by adult volunteers at one of the hockey clubs in the Spring term.

SECTION 4: ETHNICITY & DISABILITY

Whilst it is not compulsory for the following sections to be completed, the paragraph below explains why this personal information is considered to be important.

Sport can and does play a major role in promoting the inclusion of all groups in society. However, inequalities have existed within sport particularly in relation to gender, race and disability. Sport England and England Hockey are committed to promoting and developing sports equity, which is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. By monitoring the profile of people in sports clubs, national governing bodies of sport and Sport England can identify any issues relating to under representation of different groups and can develop strategies to ensure that all people have the opportunity in the future to develop and progress in sport.

England Hockey requests this data from the county as part of The Single System JDC and JAC programme, and completing this data accurately enables the county to give an accurate picture to England Hockey on our membership.
