Foreign Languages and Cultures 2016

The participants are invited to present their original scholarly work dedicated to the theoretical and practical issues of:

-  contemporary language pedagogy;

-  linguistics;

-  translation studies;

-  Anglo-phone literature;

-  and Anglo-phone culture.

The conference is intended for Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral students of English language, literature and culture. The aim of the conference is to provide the students with the opportunity to present and mutually compare the results of their scholarly work in the area of English language and culture at the national level.

All conference participants will obtain a certificate of attendance. Successful presentations will be published in the reviewed CD proceedings.

All the students´ presentations will be evaluated by the committee according to the following criteria:

·  Content of the presentation

·  Practical benefits of achieved results

·  Form of the presentation (PowerPoint, Prezi...)

·  Language proficiency level of the presenter

·  Ability to answer the questions in the discussion

Venue

The Department of Language Pedagogy and Intercultural Studies (formerly Department of Foreign Languages) is one of the constituent parts of the Faculty of Education, Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra and was founded in 1997. At present it offers the following Bachelor’s and Master’s study programmes: Teaching English Language and Literature and English Language and Culture. It also provides the PhD. study programme Methodology of Teaching English Language and Literature. To one of the recent achievements of the department belongs the fact that it has been given rights to carry out habilitation procedures and procedures for the appointment of professors in the field of methodology of teaching English.

Scientific, research and publishing activities of our work place have been successfully developed also thanks to the cooperation with other work places and institutions in Slovakia and abroad. Teachers of the department take part in international and national projects, and life-long education programmes. They have published numerous monographs, textbooks, and proceedings on language pedagogy and intercultural studies.

The conference Foreign Languages and Cultures belongs to the annually organized events that take place at our department. The participants get an opportunity to present their research and scholarly activity and share their results and knowledge in a wide range of topics from linguistics, language pedagogy, literature and culture.
