Decor Innovations in Keeping with “MatchworX”

EGGERZUM 2014 presents trends between sleekness and emotion

EGGER is presenting its new decors for 2014 under the motto “MatchworX”. All decor and surface innovations are being presented to select customers in the course of the EGGERZUM in-house exhibition. It has been expanded further and, for the first time in 2014, starts immediately after the IMM Cologne, running from 20th January to 21st February at the Brilon Forum and from 24th February to 28th March at the Forum in St. Johann in Tirol.

“We have observed that life takes a much less linear course today than it has in the past. Due to the influence of globalisation and a virtually unlimited, rapid flow of information, all of our lives are caught in the flow of continuous change and reinvention. The realisation of one’s own individuality has also been a defining factor of interior design for years, with a mix & match of materials, colours, styles and surfaces. This is always opening up new combination possibilities as well,” says EGGER design expert Klaus Monhoff, explaining the considerations underlying the EGGERZUM motto “MatchworX”.

While the focus was already on the combination of uni colours and wood types last year, decor combination possibilities are attracting even more attention in 2014. “Even a trend mix is possible. What may appear like a mix with no match from the outside, is an individual patchwork for the user, with a pronounced personal touch.” White frequently continues to take centre stage with “MatchworX”.

In regards to decors, this trend creates a demand for both timeless decors that are sleek and flexible, as well as decors that appear unconventional and take the current mood and personality of the individual into account.

Sleekness in design

Modular designs make furniture systems of today changeable while simultaneously offering convincing, playful individualisation. Furniture is serving less and less for storage, instead helping to design and shape the living space. In regards to decors, such changeable designs demand a sleekness that can keep adapting itself with timeless materials.

Light, neutral unis, popular grey hues such as U763 Pearl Grey, U732 Dust Grey or U960 Onyx Grey are very important here. Timeless, elegant wood types that captivate with their newfound naturalness without appearing heavy or coarse are chosen as well. Here the wood type is not the decisive factor. Instead the focus is on an intricate appearance, which can be seen in the new H1796 ST27 Natural Tortona, H9451 ST36 Champagne Fleetwood and H9741 Light Marseille Walnut.

Personalised elements

The sleekness offered by neutral and flexible decors is complemented by a personal touch with “MatchworX”. In design this is made possible by unconventional accents, sophisticated functions or surprising effects. EGGER brings this emotion into play through intensive but upscale uni colours such as U328 ST9 Lipstick, U343 ST9 Vino or U9606 ST9 Emerald.

Individual sources of suspense for furniture design also include materiality such as the vintage appearance or a coarse naturalness, most effectively in combination with white or neutral hues of grey. These include new versions such as H9201 ST36 Cognac Norrland Ash and H9371 ST36 Linate Oak.

The feel counts

The tactile experience of the new decors is of special importance. For example, the synchronised pore ST28 'Feelwood nature' lets Gladstone Oak appear like deeply brushed wood. The synchronised pore ST29 'Feelwood ambiance' on the other hand stands for a more striking elegance, both in the interplay with the Cape Elm decor and with uni colours.

Non-synchronised but nevertheless amazing tactile surfaces, such as the highlighted ST36 Brushed Wood, impart a sandblasted character on a variety of woodgrain decors. The palette of emotional surfaces is complemented by ST87 Ceramic, which combines matt-gloss effects with a natural appearance. This is used to maximum effect with decors such as F310 Ceramic Rust or F311 Ceramic Anthracite.

Sleek and personalised worktops

Decors that reflect the trend towards sleekness as well as personalised versions are presented among the worktop decors as well. While the Tessina and Maya decor series stand for more of a sleek appearance, lively and striking decors are found as well with Diamond Slate and Jackson Pine.

Even more room for EGGERZUM

Already in its 21st edition, the EGGER in-house exhibition is being further expanded in 2014. “For us, EGGERZUM is a very important platform for presentations and in-depth discussions with our customers. This is also why more space is being is being allocated to it in 2014,” says Managing Director Marketing Hubert Höglauer. By moving up the start date of EGGERZUM, the company also met the request of many customers to see the new decor trends even earlier. “MatchworX” is being presented at the plant in Brilon (DE) from 20th January to 21st February and at the headquarters in St. Johann in Tirol (AT) from 24th February to 28th March.
