Dear Second Grade Parents,

In this packet, your child will complete the following assignments for homework:

1. Spelling - Lesson 4: Practice writing words ending with mp, nd, nt, sk, st and Proofread

2. Scholastic news - Fuzzy Friends and Team of Birds: Read and complete the back

3. Daily Reading Log - Your child is to read for at least 20 minutes every night, a book of their choice (a Raz-plus book counts!) and write a response to go with it. Please have your child write the response.

4. Continue to browse through Raz-plus website and read at least 1 book here to earn more stars!

5. Study for Spelling Test on Friday

More notes:

v Your child will receive one Math assignment per day. Please check their homework folder daily. All assignments will be posted online.

v All assignments are due this Friday, September 30th. Please staple all of your child’s assignments together and make sure your child’s name and number is on the front page.

v Please review this week’s Spelling words with your child, in preparation for the test this Friday. Please help your child to practice saying and writing these new words in context and as well as writing them neatly.

v Please make sure your child completes all homework assignments. In doing so, your child builds discipline and responsibility as a lifelong learner. Homework completion also helps your child to practice the skills we learn and develop during class time. If students do not complete their homework, they meet with Ms. Blanch during first recess on Monday to discuss why assignments were incomplete.

v I am thrilled to hear about the students’ excitement for reading on Raz-plus! As I mentioned, I have set each student up with a particular level, just to begin with, as I want the all students to feel successful about moving up to higher levels. Also, I am planning out incentives for students who receive a certain amount of stars. I will keep you updated on this. Happy reading!
