1.The promotion of HPH initiative has been incorporated into one of the important policies of the Health Promotion Administration (HPA), Taiwan.
2.The Health Promotion Administration (HPA) fully support the drive to establish nationwide HPH movements, and has commissioned the Taiwan Society of Health Promoting Hospitals to recruit and counsel hospitals to become HPH members; moreover, in 2014HPA enlisted the help of local health bureaus to recruit institutions interested in adopting HPH initiatives; ** institutions have since become HPH members through this program.
3.The Network holds annual HPH Model Prize Award and achievement presentation ceremonies to recognize outstanding HPH institutions; organizes regular educational workshops for HPH members and non-members.
4. HPA vigorously broadcast the added health benefits of HPH to hospitals and community residents nationally through various media outlets (magazine interviews, press conferences, press articles etc.)
5. HPA utilizes the HPH model to promote the following issues, both locally and internationally: Mother-Baby Friendly hospitals, Tobacco-free Hospitals, Smoking cessation services, Cancer screening, Environment-friendly and carbon reduction, Age-Friendly Healthcare Services, Obesity prevention (Healthy exercise and diet), Workplace employee physical and mental health promotion, Non-communicable disease prevention (diabetes and renal diseases).

1. Taiwan HPH Network established a set of HPH quality assessment indicators (10 in total), which will be provided to certified HPH members to help them evaluate and maintain the quality of their health promotion services.
2.The Self-assessment tool scores analysis was conducted between 2013 and 2014 to compare the performance between new members (initial review) and renewed members (2nd review).
3.The certification process requires expert site visits to applying institutions; once the 4-year certification term is up, institutions wishing to renew their membership are required to conduct expert site visit again.

1. HPA and Taiwan Society of HPH co-organized 2 workshops for hospitals and 2 workshops for healthcare services in 2013-2014, inviting HPH members and non-HPH members to participate in learning and implementation of HPH model and strategies.
2. The annual National HPH Conference co-organized by HPA and Taiwan Society of HPH in 2013 and 2014, providing an opportunity for HPH and non-HPH members to share their experiences and learn from each other; additionally, awards recognition were presented to HPH members with outstanding achievements in either HPH strategy or creativity contests.
3. The Society holds annual Tobacco-FreeHospital conference; inviting the winner hospitals of ENSH-Global Gold Forum to share their experiences and arrange hospital visit; additionally, many renowned national experts give speech about new tobacco-free knowledge and smoking cessation service experiences to participants.
4. The Society held four different HPH theme workshops in 2014, such as “Health promotion in workplace”; “Advanced courses for HPH members”, “How to prepare for HPH Model Prize Award” and “How to prepare for the annual International HPH Conference abstract submission”. Using movie appreciation, hospital visit, group discussion…to deliver HPH concepts, experiences and implementation tools.
5. HPA hosted the 1st APEC Conference on Health Promoting Hospitals and Health Services on July 2014. The conference featured plenary speeches, group discussions and poster exhibitions. 243 posters were showcased during the conference on topics such as promotion of tobacco hazard prevention, maternal and child health, obesity prevention, management of chronic diseases, age-friendly healthcare, health promoting workplaces and environment-friendly healthcare.

A total of 130 healthcare institutions from 21 counties/cities in Taiwan were recruited in 2014; 10 hospitals in these institutions were non-HPH. Due to this project, 1 new hospital has applied and passed the site-visit to become HPH member by the end of 2014.
  3. Encourage competition and dissemination of HPH experiences within the network through annual award competitions. Outstanding members are recognized and received awards from the Vice President in 2014.
  4. Published magazine articles in 2013 (Common Wealth and Common Health); published a special volume “Health Promoting Hospitals and Health Services” in 2014. This volume included the development history of HPH in Taiwan and was disseminated to 480 hospitals, 22 city and county departments of health, 373 public health centers, and 27 libraries of universities and colleges etc. to advocate and promote the concepts and examples of HPH.

Examples:
1. Tobacco-free: amendment to the Tobacco Hazard Prevention Law in 2009 stipulated that smoking is prohibited in all indoor public areas, including hospitals. Since April 2014, smoking prohibited area expand to parks.
2. Obesity prevention: starting in 2011, HPH members work with 21 cities/counties government and health bureaus to promote nationwide healthy weight management program, which is fully supported by central government agencies and endorsement from the President, Vice President, Minister of Health and other high ranking municipal leaders.
3. Age-Friendly Healthcare services: Age-Friendly certification started in 2011, until the end of 2014; 103 hospitals in Taiwan have passed the certification; 91 of them are also HPH members. During the 1st APEC Conference on HPH that took place in Taipei, Taiwan from July 30-31 2014, the representative form Singapore expressed that they hope Singapore will be the first Asian nation to use Taiwan’s Framework on Age-Friendly Healthcare and Health services. It is a big success for Taiwan HPH Network.
4. Cancer screening and prevention: HPA referenced the HPH model to support hospitals to promote cancer screening and launched the cancer screening and treatment quality improvement program since 2011; until 2014, 226 hospitals are engaged in the cancer screening and treatment quality improvement program; 122 of them are also HPH members.
5. Health Promotion Administration (HPA) supported local health authorities to assist in promotion of HPH initiatives. A total of 136 healthcare institutions from 21 counties/cities in Taiwan were recruited in 2013; 29 hospitals in these institutions were non-HPH. HPA adopts health promotion in its policies and encourages hospitals to implement them. The policies mentioned above have successfully increased the number of HPH members in Taiwan considerably within 2 years.
1. Tobacco-free hospitals: 179 hospitals are certified by ENSH in Taiwan, of which 122 are also HPH members.
2.Age-Friendly healthcare: untilthe end of 2014, 103 hospitals have passed the Age-Friendly Healthcare Institution certification, of which 91 are also HPH members.
3.Obesity prevention: by the end of 2014, 129 hospitals are engaged in promotion of healthy diet and body weight management; 93 hospitals are also HPH members.
4.Cancer screening: by the end of 2014, 226 hospitals are engaged in the cancer screening and treatment quality improvement program; 122 are HPH members.
5.HPA subsidized 21 city/county health bureaus since 2012 to recruit 48 healthcare institutions to participate in health promotion work.

In September of 2012, HPA applied and passed the ISO9001:2008 Quality Management Systems certification with its “Recognition of Age-Friendly Hospitals and Health Services”, “Tobacco-Free Hospital Accreditation”, and “Baby-Friendly Hospital Accreditation”. These are also subjected to renewal audit every year.
