Dear Parents/Guardians, 10.27.2009

We are coming to the end of the first quarter at the end of this week. It is hard to believe that the school year is 1/4 complete.

Thank you for all that you are doing to keep your children healthy during this flu season. If students are sick they need to be kept home. We are continuing to vigorously clean the school, enforcing proper hygiene, and doing all we can so that the flu is kept in check. I have heard from many other schools that are experiencing a high number of flu cases. We will continue to keep you abreast of any big developments at St. Sylvester.

Halloween Fun Fair

This Friday is our 3rd annual Halloween Fun Fair. It will occur during the day for students from 8:30 – 12:30 and again in the evening from 6 – 8:30. Please note that the evening times are longer than first posted on the calendar. The daytime schedule is as follows: Preschool from 9:00-10:00; Grades K-2: 10:00-11:00; Grades 3-5: 11:00-12:00; and Grades 6-8 from 12:00-1:00. It promises to be a great time for children and families. Game tickets will be on sale for 25 cents. Each child will receive 10 free game tickets on Friday morning. Students are welcome to bring money to purchase more tickets but they do not need to. All of the money raised goes to support our scholarship programs and after school clubs.

Volunteers are still needed to work the games during the day on Friday and in the evening. Please contact Mrs. Castillo-Barragan at 312-479-2013 if you can volunteer Friday during the school day. If you wish to volunteer in the evening please contact Ms. Laura Ramos at 773-606-0791 or Mrs. Rosa Perez at 773-575-4044. Volunteers should be in Schwinn Hall 15 minutes before the start of the Fun Fair. Morning volunteers should be here no later than 8:15 while evening volunteers should be here no later than 5:45.

We are also still in need of donations of candy, soda, water, juice, treats, small prizes, etc. that can be given away at each of the different booths. If you are able and would like to contribute feel free to send in items with your child or just drop them off with Ms. Carmen or Ms. Vanessa.

Football Mania Tickets

This Friday is the deadline for us to activate football raffle tickets to be eligible for all 10 weeks. Please bring your money and ticket stubs to the front office by Friday. October 30. Tickets can be activated after the 30th but will only be eligible for those later weeks. Please contact Mr. Bennett if you have questions.

3rd Grade Saints Project

Next Monday, November 2, at the 8:30 Mass our 3rd grade class will present the saints that they have studied for the last month. This is the 8th year that we have done this and it is a great experience for our young students to learn more about the lives of some of the saints and to discover that anyone can become a saint. We stress that everyone can live great lives of faith, love, and service. Parents and/or guardians are invited to Monday’s all-school Mass.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

See the letter in today’s folder concerning conference times. You should check the time slots that are best for you and return the form to school with your child. Next week you will get this paper back with the exact time(s) listed.

Book Fair Volunteers

We will be in need of several volunteers to help run the school book fair at the following times: set-up Thursday, 10/29 from 3-4:30; Monday through Friday 11/2-11/6; Sunday, 11/8 from 8-3:30. Contact Mr. Bennett if you wish to volunteer.
