Dear Parent/Principal,

The athletic program at the KentuckySchool for the Blind provides an opportunity for students who are blind or visually impaired to participate in athletic competition. KSB is pleased to make these opportunities available to students who attend school in their local district.

KSB is a member of both KHSAA and the North Central Association of Schools for the Blind (NCASB) organization. Students have the opportunity to participate in track, goalball, wrestling, cheerleading, swimming and forensics. The wrestling team also competes in KHSAA events.

Varsity activities are available to those students who are at least 14 years of age or in the 7th grade or higher. Junior varsity activities are available for students up to age 13 or up through the 6th grade.

In order for a student to participate, we ask that you read the “Athletic Guidelines for LEA Students Policy” and sign the attached agreement. Both the parent and the student’s principal should sign the agreement. Please contact me if you have questions at 502-897-1583 Ext. 258 or email at

We would love to have your child/student participate as a member of KSBextracurricularactivities. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Kenneth Jones

KSB Athletic Director

ATHLETIC GUIDELINES FOR LEA STUDENTS POLICY (SBDM Policy)

  1. Students are permitted to participate in athletics/activities through a written agreement between KSB, the family and the student’s local education agency.
  2. LEA students are required to follow the same team practice rules and guidelines as KSB students including number of excused and unexcused practices and guidelines of the NCASB and KHSAA. Individual team sport guidelines will be developed and must be signed by a parent/guardian prior to participation in meets or tournaments annually.
  3. LEA students are required to practice on KSB’s campus with KSB coaches.
  4. LEA and KSB students who have a teacher assistant (who are responsible for behavior management and other personal care needs) during the normal school day must have a teacher assistant accompany them to practice and competition. This will be provided at the expense of the district. The teacher assistant will be responsible for behavior management and other personal care needs of students during competition and practice.
  5. A student’s name must appear on the NCASB eligibility list prior to competing at the conference meet or tournament.
  6. KSB will provide for transportation, housing, and meals of students during competition.
  7. KSB is not responsible for transportation to and from athletic practices or for the arrival or departure of students for athletic competition.

I give consent for to participate as a member of the KSB team for the school year. I have read and agree to the Athletic Guidelines for LEA Student Policy listed above. I understand that participation in some events may require time missed during the school day, but realize that this is reduced as much as possible.
