Dear Mahaffie Families,

As we look ahead to the holiday season, many great memories come to mind. Sharing time with family and friends is what the holidays are all about. No doubt, feeling fortunate and fulfilled is also at the forefront of our minds. As we embark on a time of tradition and giving, it is our turn to reach out to our community. Mahaffie would like to join with its families to make a difference in the life of a homeless person this holiday season.

On December 18th all Mahaffie students will take part in the “Stuff a Sock Project” for the Uplift organization. Uflift services homeless individuals in the KC metro area 12 months a year. Volunteers with Uplift go to the streets 3-7 days per week taking food, clothing, and friendship to people who call the streets home. This Mahaffie tradition has touched not only the lives of the homeless individuals receiving the gifts, but those that have been involved in preparing the socks, too.

Each grade level will be asked to donate a specific item toward the project. Then, on December 18th each class will prepare sock gifts to be donated. If every child participates, we will have more than 400 gifts out on Kansas City streets this holiday season. What an awesome experience for our students and families!

You may send in your donated item(s) to your child’s classroom teacher. We would like to try to have everything here by December 12th so that I can prepare for the big day!

As always, thank you for your generous support. Mahaffie truly is a wonderful place to be!

Happy Holidays!

Mrs. Cole
