Prime project Responsibilities

The role of the Employment Advisor is to support the Energy Champions to achieve their personal employment and development goals using bothone-to-one and group sessions. The Employment Advisor will sit within the Bromley by Bow Centre Employment and Skills team and collaborate with colleagues to build relationships with local employment and training providers and identify opportunities which may be of interest to the Energy Champions.

The EmPower project is funded by British Gas Energy Trust.

DetailedResponsibilities

A.SUPPORTING ENERGY CHAMPIONS

  • Deliver focused and effective support and training to Energy Champions either in a group or one-to-one setting aimed at supporting them to develop employability skills
  • Work with Energy Champions on a one-to-onelevel to create SMART goals and beable to make informed choices for their own employment and personal development and how the programme might enable them to move closer to these
  • Deliver job search, on-line applications, interview preparations and CV support sessions with Energy Champions. And refer to employment weekly sessions where appropriate
  • To discuss any barriers to employment in a confidential, sensitive and proactive way, assisting to support identified issues; such as disability, health, financial and social
  • Where appropriate, liaise with the wider Employment and Skills team to deliver employability sessions
  • Work with the Employment and Skills Engagement team to pursue opportunities for employment, training or volunteering, including those provided within the Centrefor the Energy Champions
  • Support Energy Champions to consider and prepare for the financial implications of moving into work
  • Work with colleagues, partners and Energy Champions to develop high quality training materials for Energy Champions
  • Ensure training workshops and materials are well organisede.g. room bookings, equipment, refreshments, handouts
  • Provide information on local services and resources to support Energy Champion
  • Work with key colleagues and stakeholders, particularly within the Bromley by Bow Centre Employment Skills team to integrate approaches, share knowledge and improve outcomes for Energy Champions
  1. MARKETING AND PROMOTION
  • Raise awareness of the project across Tower Hamlets through presentations and events
  • Engage with residents to help them to understand the benefits of taking part in the courses or accessing the services on offer through the project
  • Act as an ambassador for the project and the Bromley by Bow Centre
  1. EMPLOYER ENGAGEMENT
  • Work with the Employer Engagement staff within the Employment & Skills Team to develop opportunities for Energy Champions
  • Work with Employer Engagement to connect with housing providers to consider the potential to offer longer term staff or work placements which will be accessible to Energy Champions

D.MONITORING, REPORTING AND EVALUATION

  • Monitor, track and evaluate theattendance and effectiveness of delivery and the achievement against agreed targets
  • Work with the Employment & Skills team to record and maintain systems to keep accurate records relating to thedelivery and outcomesof the project including collection of photographs, quotes and case studies
  1. EXTERNAL PARTNERS AND COMMUNICATION
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships and communication with projectstakeholders
  • Develop new relationships with partners locally to expand the reach of the project
  • Establish and promote cross referral mechanisms within the Bromley by Bow Centre and partner organisations
  • Work with the rest of the team to support the development of marketing materials for the project’s services
  • Recognise people’s needs for different methods of communication and delivery and respond accordingly
  1. TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
  • Attend one-to-one meetings and performance appraisal meetings with the EmPower Project Manager
  • Undertake regular training for the development of the project and individual career progression
  1. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • In liaison with the Project Manager actively contribute to the strategic planning and development of the EmPowerproject
  • Actively contribute to team meetings and away days
  • Adhere to Bromley by Bow Centre’s policies and procedures at all times, including Equality and Diversity, Data Protection, Health and Safety, Lone Working, Confidentiality and Safeguarding
  • Ensure the project reflects the vision, mission and values of the Centre
  • Produce correspondenceand perform administrative tasks
  • Undertake any other additional tasks as reasonably deemed appropriate by the Programme Manager.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1 to 2 years’ experience in Careers Information Advice and Guidance
  • To hold a Level 2/3 Careers Information Advice & Guidance qualification

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

  • Experience of delivering high quality employment-focussed training and support to a diverse group of people
  • Experience of working with employment and training providers
  • Knowledge of the labour market information
  • The ability to use own initiative and to work supportively as a team member
  • Proven track record of delivering client focused services
  • Proven track record of monitoring and evaluating the impact of training interventions
  • Experience of working with and supporting volunteers
  • Experience of developing and maintaining partnerships with a range of stakeholders
  • Experience of working in a diverse and multi-racial environment

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of employability and barriers to employment
  • Working knowledge and understanding of the social housing sector

  • Ability to engage people effectively on a one-to-one and in a group setting
  • Ability to develop and deliver quality services
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, written and presentation skills, including communicating with a variety of audiences

  • Excellent co-ordination and organisational skills, including ability to prioritise and plan own workload as well as that of the team, manage multiple tasks and work to tight deadlines
  • Ability to analyse data and reports and address these with appropriate actions
  • High level of computer literacy including applied knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)
