Dear Coaches and Competitors:

Join us at Monarch High School on Saturday, October 26, 2013, for the last novice tournament of the season. A novice is defined as a competitor new to forensics as of October 1, 2013. Register and update your entries as often as you like at www.speechmeets.com and PLEASE enter student names.

Refer to www.nflonline.org or www.chsaa.org for detailed information on any of the events offered at this meet.

Debate Resolutions and Festival and Tournament Events offered:

CX---Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic engagement

toward Cuba, Mexico or Venezuela.

CX Rules---The Monarch novice follows the northern-area trend limiting CX teams to certain topic areas.

Inform your policy judges in advance that the negative is not to run counterplans or

kritiks.

PF---Resolved: Unilateral military force by the United States is justified to prevent nuclear proliferation.

Remind your competitors that PF has a 2 minute Final Focus!

LD---Resolved: In a democracy, voting ought to be compulsory.

Impromptu, Creative Storytelling, DI, HI, Duo, Poetry, OO (Using a manuscript in OO will result in a rank of four.)

Combined Extemp: Round 1 NX; Round 2 IX; Round 3 competitor’s choice

Entries: No limit! We will accept pre-registration numbers at www.speechmeets.com until we are full.

Cost: $5 per competitor, $10 per team event and make checks payable to Monarch High School Forensics.

Fees will be based on pre-registration numbers as of 4:00 P.M., Wednesday, October 23, 2013.

Judges: Please provide one varsity judge for every 6 event entries and 1 debate judge for every 2 debate entries. If you are bringing LDers or CXers, you must bring capable student judges. Also, inform your judges no oral critiques are allowed in any event nor should they discuss rounds they have judged with other competitors, especially those from their own school. I must know how many individual, total judges you are bringing to plan for their free lunch accurately. Register them on speechmeets.

Food: Competitors may purchase food and beverages (no fast food is available within walking distance). A light breakfast and lunch will be served to coaches. All coaches are welcome in the tab room in the Monarch library. Student judges will be offered a free lunch.

Awards: Ribbons will be awarded to the top six finishers in each event. A generous supply of superior and excellent ribbons will also be given.

Registration: 9:00-9:30 (Please arrive on time.)

Round 1: 9:45 -11:00

Round 2: 11:15-12:30

Round 3: 12:45-2:00

Awards: 2:45 (or earlier if possible)
