The Board of Education of School District #10 held its regular meeting on Monday, May 08, 2017. Board members present were: Jim Arens, Erin Rathe, Brad Wilkins, Scott Erthum, Mark Johnson and Dan Dailey. Board member absent: None. Also present were Principals Sarah Williams, Bill Lentz and Superintendent Darrell Peterson. There were several guests in attendance. The meeting was called to order by Board President Dan Dailey at 8:00 p.m.

Notice of the meeting was in the Ainsworth Star Journal and on radio station KBRB.

As noted during the meeting a current copy of the Open Meetings Act is posted on the south wall of the District Office meeting room.

Motion was made by Mark Johnson and seconded by Jim Arens to approve the following consent agenda items: Minutes of the April 10, 2017 meeting, claims in the amount of $214,115.42 General Fund, $2,878.93 Section 125 and $21,349.87 Hot Lunch Fund. The Cash Flow Report for the month of April was given. The Treasurers Report was given as follows: Cash Assets: April 30th: $2,441,460.77. Set the next regular meeting on Monday, June 12, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. in the District Office. Roll call vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.

National History Day students Dakota Stutzman, Vanessa Taylor and sponsor Nichole Flynn were present to show their presentations and request financial support for their trip to National History Competition.

PreK-6 Principal Sarah Williams reported on the following: End of Year Activities, NeSA Testing, Youth Track Meet, Mobile Museum, Kindergarten 2017-18, Summer School for K-6: Bridges.

Secondary Principal Bill Lentz reported on the following: Junior ACT testing, All-Sports Tailgate, FFA Banquet, Academic Awards, Fine Arts Awards and Concert, National Bridge Building Competition, Jack Arens and Vanessa Taylor named to the All Academic Team. 5 Valedictorians for 2016-17, SWC Quiz Bowl, SWC Track, and SWC Golf meet, Teacher Appreciation Week.

Activity Directors Jared Hansmeyer and Scott Steinhauser reported on the following: Athletic Banquet, NSAA All-State Honors, District Music, NEN Classic Track and Field Meet, Golf Invitational, SWC Quiz Bowl, Fine Arts Banquet and Spring Concert, FFA Banquet, FBLA Banquet.

Superintendent Darrell Peterson reported on the following: NSAA Home School guidelines, NASB/Community Meeting outcome.

Lunchtime Solution breakfast and lunch participation and financial reports were presented to the Board.

Superintendent Darrell Peterson proposed a change to Policy AR 5220 Grading Procedures Review. The changes will allow more students to be recognized. Class rank, Valedictorian and Salutatorian would no longer be recognized.

Motion was made by Jim Arens and seconded by Brad Wilkins to approve financial support for the National History Day Competition as dictated by AR-5300.1. Roll call vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.

Motion was made by Jim Arens and seconded by Erin Rathe to approve financial support for the Destination Imagination National Competition as dictated by AR-5300.1. Roll call vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.

Motion was made by Brad Wilkins and seconded by Mark Johnson to approve food service prices as discussed for the 2017-18 school year and to participate in the Summer Food Service Program SFSP if approved. Roll call vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.

Motion was made by Mark Johnson and seconded by Brad Wilkins to vote for Steve Koch for Region 15 Legislative Committee. Roll call vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.

Motion was made by Erin Rathe and seconded by Jim Arens to approve Rasmussen Mechanical for $40,000 for upgrades to the elementary and high school. Roll call vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.

Motion was made by Mark Johnson and seconded by Erin Rathe to approve $15,333 to Kucera Painting to paint the gym ceiling. Roll call vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.

Motion was made by Jim Arens and Mark Johnson to approve acceptance of foreign exchange student Lovis Hellman. Roll call vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.

Motion was made by Dan Dailey and seconded by Mark Johnson to adjourn the meeting at 9:01 p.m. Roll call vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.

The Board will hold a regular meeting on June 12, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. in the District Office. Current agendas and/or discussion topics will be available for public inspection in the office of the Superintendent.
