D2: Basketball Cheer Merit / Demerit System

  • The D2: Basketball Cheer Demerit System is designed to provide a management system. The system provides demerits and penalties for rules and violations. Yes, these are in addition to the items on the contract which was signed and returned with the application. A copy of the contract can be found on Mrs. Parker’s cheer page.
  • The Demerit system is in effect for all cheerleaders for the entire school year.
  • Demerits may be given to all cheerleaders by the sponsor or coaches at any practice, performance, or function.
  • Demerits are permanent, although merits may be earned to counteract the demerits earned.
  • For every 10 demerits accumulated, the cheerleader will be required to

sit out of a performance but required to attend practice, the

performance, and dress out.

  • A cheerleader that accumulates 15 demerits will need to organize a way to acquire some Merits and notify one of the sponsors asap.
  • A total of 25 demerits will terminate membership. Cheerleaders should keep up with their merits and demerits also. They should have some idea of where they stand at all times.
  • The coach will keep a master copy of all demerits and merits.

Demerit Offenses:

Undesirable conduct anytime/anywhere 10 demerits

UN-excused absence from a game10 demerits

Leaving practice/game without permission10 demerits

Disrespect shown to the coach, captains, faculty, 10 demerits

etc...

Insubordination 10 demerits

ISS No more than 2 days of ISS are allowed. You will sit out for one game

per ISS day. A third day of ISS puts you off of the team.

OSS Cheerleader will be off of the team.

**25 demerits will result in the removal from the cheerleading squad.**

  • The Merit System is designed to provide rewards and recognition for members of the team for extra service to the organization as well as an avenue for specific demerits to be worked off.
  • Each cheerleader will be required to keep a record of their own merits on a Merit Sheet.
  • One should get a signature & hous of the supervisor of the organization that was helped or the cheer sponsor who witnessed.
  • All merits must be approved by the coach.
  • The coach will maintain a record of all merits for each member.

Merits:

Straight A’s and B’s 2 merits

Serving as an officer of a school club 1 merit

organization (other than cheerleading)

Volunteer hours (one hour=one merit) 3 merits

Must have signature of person in charge.

**Other merits and demerits may be assigned according to the situation and what the sponsor and coaches feels is necessary.**
