Part-time Custodial Work

Congregation Shomrei Torah is seeking a part-time custodian to start immediately. The position is 15-20 hours/week. Salary is commensurate on experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Fingerprint/background check clearance
  • Flexibility, willing and available to work days, evenings and weekends as assigned. This is a part-time non-benefited position.

Custodial Job Description

General maintenance of CST facilities.

  • The custodial notebook is to be checked each workday for special instructions and set-ups.
  • Make sure lights are turned out in unused areas.
  • Note toTemple Administratorof any repairs that need to be done.
  • The last person in the building must close and lock all doors and windows, set the security alarm and close and lock lower gate.
  • Clean all offices, empty all garbage daily, dust offices, wash desks.
  • Sweep or blow patio and parking lot
  • Maintain exterior of property
  • Change burned out light bulbs
  • Either repair broken equipment or with approval of the Temple Administrator arrange for service

To be done everyday

  • All garbage and recyclablestaken out and deposited in bins.
  • All toilets, sinks and urinals cleaned with mild soap and water and then polished. Excessive grime may be removed with a liquid all purpose cleaner.
  • Launder and fold linens used during services and events
  • Wipe clean all white boards
  • Clean coffee station

To be done 3X/week

  • Drinking fountain to be cleaned with non-abrasive cleaner.
  • Kitchen sinks and counters washed with germicidal cleaner and then wiped dry.
  • Kitchen floor and bathroom floors mopped with germicidal cleaner.
  • Spot clean fingerprints and smudges from door frames, light switches, walls, doors and cabinets.
  • Clean entry door glass areas.
  • Change burnt out light bulbs, making sure there is an inventory of bulbs available
  • Replace garbage can liners, making sure dispensers in rest rooms are stocked.
  • Keep courtyard and patio free of debris.
  • Spot clean all carpeting
  • Wipe down refrigerator interior

To be done 1 x a week

  • All tile classroom floors wet mopped – using approved cleaner – Armstrong S-485 Floor Cleaner diluted to manufacturers instructions.
  • All carpets vacuumed including Shalom Hall, Sanctuary, offices. Spot cleaning of spots as needed and then followed by an application of Durasafe 4007 Encapsulator.
  • Dust all furniture, blinds, bookcases, base boards, piano, window sills.
  • Wash all interior plain glass windows and glass doors.
  • Inventory all disposable goods, light bulbs and cleaning material. Order supplies through Fishman Supplies after approval of Temple Administrator with copy to TA.
  • Maintain in clean condition ovens, stoves and grease traps.

To Be Done 2x a Year

  • Strip and wax all tile floors.
  • Wash all exterior windows
  • Spot shampoo carpeting
  • Spot paint
  • Clean out gutters
  • Remove calcium deposits at sink

Services and TempleEvents

  • Set up chairs and tables as requested – return to carts after event, restoring to standard set-up.
  • Collect any prayer books and return to cart.
  • Move piano to position, and return following services.
  • When requested put chairs outside for services and/or set-up umbrellas and chairs and tables.
  • Help move to and from High Holy Day site
  • Be available to insure that temperatures are kept at a comfortable setting

Preparation for ReligiousSchool on Wednesday and Saturday afternoon.

Set-up furniture and room dividers indicated by school office and return to standardset-up following class.

Monday 2:00 PM- 5:00 PM

Tuesday 2 hours/flex

Wednesday 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Thursday 4 hours/flex

Friday 6:00 (Regular service) or 7:00 (Tisch) -10:00 PM

Saturday 2:00-7:00 PM (B’nei Mitzvah); 12:00-5:00 (non BM)

Sunday8:00 AM -3:00 (RS); 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM (non RS)

*This shows the entire weekly schedule for two custodians. Each custodian will work 15-20 hours/week.

Job requires flexibility in hours due to special events and/or seasonal changes in schedule.

Position reports to the Temple Administrator.

When time is available, attend to weeding and general landscape maintenance, special projects per the directions of the Temple Administrator.
