3. Academic Profile

I have been involved in teaching and research in the areas of River Engineering and Catchment Surface Hydrology for a period of more than twenty years at: the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, (Formerly: University of Roorkee), India and the National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee, India. In addition, I have also worked as a researcher at the Technical University, Delft, the Netherlands (in 1993 – 1994), the Department of Engineering Hydrology, National University of Ireland, Galway (in 1991) and at the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, USA (in 1991). In 2003 I was involved in research in the area of Hydraulic Engineering as a visiting Associate Professor to the Institute of Hydro Sciences, German Armed Forces University Munich, Germany. From April to September 2005, I was involved in research in the area of Hydraulic Engineering at the Institute for Hydraulics, Hydrology and Glaciology of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH), Zürich. I visited the Department of Civil Engineering, Kyushu University Fukuoka, Japan from January to October, 2007 on an invitation from the Japan Society for Promotion of Science (JSPS) for research work in the area of Hydraulic Engineering. My research findings have been well received by the scientific community and are widely cited too. I have collaborated internationally in research and provided inputs to scientific knowledge through publications, peer reviews of the journal papers and editorship.

I have developed and taught several courses both to graduate and undergraduate level students at the Indian institute of Technology, Roorkee, India. These courses include: Pipe and Channel Hydraulics, Sediment Transport, Hydromechanics, Hydrology and Hydrometeorology. In addition to the classroom teaching, the curriculum for these courses also includes laboratory and fieldwork and the tutorial classes.
