CAREER HISTORY

Stour Procurement Ltd– June 2016 to date

Set up as a procurement and supply chain consultancy. Clients include, the market leading Procurement Consultancy – Vendigital,delivering a supply chain transformation projectfor a large international transportation client and Southern Water.

Vendigital key achievements:

  • Created a supply chain strategy for the major fleet units, circa £5m spend. Identified and delivered in excess of £500k of savings, reduced lead-times by 30%, delivered by using strategic chosen partners.
  • Redefined, a previously off target, fleet parts project, circa £10m spend. Identified a new approachbased around using strategic partners delivering circa £1m of savings and reducing stock levels by supplier owned stock.
  • Developed a business case with project timing plans, delivering a minimum of 10% savings, for Facilities Management category and identified, at least 15% savings, for energy efficiency initiatives.

Southern Water key achievements

  • Established a Collaborative Procurement strategy for Southern Water. As part of their business wide BS11000 accreditation application.
  • Project managed the OJEU tendering process for Southern Water to ensure value for money and compliance.

Imtech UK- Group Supply Chain Director- 2012 to June 2016

The UK and Ireland division of Imtech, a Dutch PLC, with a group turnover in excess of 5B Euro. This newly created role covers all of supply chain strategy with an external spend of £330m, delivered via 8 separate limited companiesby a team of 30 procurement professionals. Serving on the Imtech NV group procurement board,as well as the UK board of management.

Key achievements:

  • Transformed the traditional buying function into a strategic supply chain profession.
  • Introduced partnership arrangements with our top supply chain providers, allowing for lower total cost of ownership, savings in excess of £20m, and harnessing supply chain innovation.
  • Introduced professional development, career succession plan and technical competencesinto team members.
  • Lead worldwide categories teams and major projects in excess of £140m.
  • Identified and introduced procurement best practice. Includinga Procurement Portal platform and a structured SRM system linked to the NAV ERP system.
  • Managed the supply chain during the transition to the new PE owners, after the Dutch parentcompany went into bankruptcy.

NG Bailey IT Services- Head of Procurement- 2008 to 2012

A privately owned £600m turnover M&E contractor. This newly created role covers all the procurement strategy, channel management and vendor relationship across the ICT division, also acting as a national category manager for several pan-company contracts. Responsible for £100m of spend including materials, services and telecoms managed services providers. Leading the key relationships with the major channel partners including CISCO, Mitel, HP and Microsoft.Implementedsustainable procurement and people development at group level.

Key Achievements

  • Transformed the Procurement team from 3 separate locations and silos. Into one focused centre of excellence,resulting in a reduction of 3 heads.
  • Reduced costs by £3m plus year on year and improved service delivery by 10%.
  • Designed and managed the implementation of supply chain to support a recently won MoD ICT support across 225 UK and Europe sites.
  • Created and defined a clear Procurement Strategy, ensuring Stakeholder buy-in.

South West Trains–Head of Procurement and Contracts-2005 to 2008

This position is responsible for all procurement strategy, supplier development, tendering of contracts and relationship management across this Stagecoach plc subsidiary company, FTSE100 listed. Supplier spends in excess of £350m per annum are managed by my team of 12, organised into Category Management teams, using OJEU. Covering all areas from waste management, utilities, IT/telecoms, security guarding, vehicle fleet, legal services, FM (Hard and Soft Services) at over 200 locations, property management in excess of 425 sites and construction projects.

Key achievements:

  • Achieved annual savings of £50m through strategic category management and effective stakeholder engagement. Especially large construction projects including station and depots refurbishment and new builds, under the OJEU umbrella.
  • Identified and started to implement a carbon footprint reduction strategy. Including a re-cycling trial at 10 sites and Carbon Trust audits to identify energy efficiency programmes, achieved 30% reduction at first trial site.
  • Implemented best practise including- e-procurement platform accessed by company intranet and purchasing cards for low value ordering. This has eliminated maverick spend risk and reduced accounts payable team by two.
  • Increased advertising and property management income by £6m over 2 years.

Hutchison Ports UK Ltd – Category Manager - 2000 to 2005

This position covered procurement across 3 sites with the job based at Felixstowe, Britain’s premier container port. My team of 7, sourced a wide range of commodities, utilities and services, construction works, with a total spend of £125m.

Key achievements:

  • Purchase of Electricity (75GWhr) and Gas across 3 sites. Tendering process achieved market best results, with gas tender conducted via e-purchasing.
  • Benchmarking high value commodity items including Hard FM, Stationery, Tyres, Lubricants, IT, Telecoms, Clothing, Electrical items and MRO items. Reduced costs by up to 40% by using a category management approach.
  • Sourcing and distribution of fuel (20 million litres per annum). Purchased via spot and futures market always achieving market best prices.
  • Improved supplier delivery performance by 15%.
