Action Plan 1: ATTACHMENT

ACTIONS / TIMESCALE / RESOURCES- The attachment toolbox pilot project / consultation is concluded and identified improvements are made the resource before its publication in October 2017
- Attachment lead practitioners ensure that all staff have access to the attachment toolbox and promote its use when planning and reviewing placements.
- Attachment lead practitioners support staff to embed attachment informed strategies using a coaching approach.
- All bases in Kear Campus have the principles of an attachment informed school displayed in the staff area along with a spotlight on interventions.
- Electronic support for attachment informed practice can be accessed using GLOW / Website.
- Regular focus groups monitor and review the implementation of attachment aware approaches across Kear Campus.
- Literacy is recognised to be at the heart of an attachment aware school and the working group focus on strengthening links between literacy resources (film, novels) to attachment experiences.

Action Plan 1: LITERACY

ACTIONS / TIMESCALE / RESOURCES- To create a literacy strategy for Kear Campus
- To ensure all Kear pupils have a baseline assessment of their literacy skills at the beginning of their placement and for this to be followed up with robust and systematic tracking of progress through at least 6 monthly or annual re-testing
- To ensure that any pupils with literacy gaps (e.g. between their reading / spelling ages and their chronological age) have a targeted intervention to support their literacy development
- To ensure all Kear locations are adequately resourced with a range of materials specifically designed to develop basic literacy skills across a range of levels
- All Kear staff to engage in a professional learning experience in relation to teaching early reading skills and / or teaching literacy across the curriculum

- all pupils experiencing delivery of lessons which explore wellbeing generally, including the SHANARRI indicators
- reference to wellbeing in wider Kear environment e.g. wall displays in classrooms, termly GIRFEC focus (linked to Kear curriculum rationale) etc
- Continue to implement The Scottish Government’s Play Strategy through:
- ongoing work with families
- play policy for Kear Campus
- professional learning opportunities for all Kear staff in relation to play
- Ensure most Kear pupils attain the SQA Wellbeing Award as part of their senior phase experience
- Establish a bank of health & wellbeing resources which support the delivery of structured PSE courses across Kear Campus

ACTIONS / TIMESCALE / RESOURCES- All staff will have an opportunity to engage in professional learning and coaching led by ‘Learning Champions’. This develops leadership opportunities in the staff team and also develops a coaching model to support sustainable development
- ‘Learning Champions’ will support staff to work with learners in promoting metacognitive learning strategies, embed a ‘learning to learn’ culture and innovative teaching and learning approaches
- Through discussion of reflective journals with their ‘Learning Champion Coach’, staff members will have an opportunity to discuss strategies and approaches. Pupils will engage in semi-structured interviews, keeping learning journals and engage in the coaching progress to evaluate and discussthe impact of the initiative.
