Studio Policy 2018 - REVISED

Thank you for taking the time to carefully read this policy statement. I am required under the Professional Code of Ethics established by the National Guild of Piano Teachers, Music Teachers National Association, and Music Educators National Conference to create and maintain a professional policy statement, which I must share with my students. Before lessons may begin, parents (and adult students) must sign the registration form. This means you have read, understand, and accept the policies of my studio. Additional family members who enroll in lessons do not need to sign an additional form. Your continuance in lessons acknowledges your agreement with Ennis Music Studio policy changes for all family members.

Group Lessons

You must register in advance by following the link below:

If the enrolled student is unable to attend the group classes, anyone from their household mayregister and attend if they meet the age/ability requirements, even if they are not a student at Ennis Music Studio.

Because something is offered for everyone on each group lesson date; as with private lessons, no portion of tuition will be refunded for any reason. This includes if you or your family member chooses not to participate or if the class is full because you didn’t register in a timely manner. Group lessons are an important part of growth for each student. Not only does it allow opportunities to meet other students, it allows students the opportunities to learn in a fun atmosphere through games and activities that can’t be done in the private setting. Students are also able to learn how to perform with other students, as well as be exposed to other instruments or artistic areas not directly related to their private lessons.

ATTENDANCE: If you choose not to attend any Ennis Music Studio event, your monthly fee does not change. In the rare occasion that your teacher is forced to cancel a lesson, the lesson will be rescheduled at your convenience.

NOTICES: Most correspondence will be by email. To ensure that you receive all information and have the opportunity to be included on time sensitive material, please check your email as often as possible. Ennis Music Studio is not liable for any accrued charges due to you not receiving invoices/emails that we have sent. I send home, mail, or email notices referring to late payments, students not practicing, etc. The purpose of the notices is to improve the function of my studio and to remind you of your commitment to my studio procedures as stated in studio policy. If you ever receive a notice that you feel you should not have received, please contact me immediately.

Non-Refundable Deposit

Upon enrolling or re-enrolling in lessons, you are charged a deposit which may be applied towards tuition. You can designate on your registration form whether to apply this deposit as a grace period for tuition statements or to apply it directly towards your first month of tuition. As a grace period, this amount is applied to your account to cover your tuition from the invoice due date to the first lesson of the month to prevent late charges during that time should you not meet the due date. Late charges will be applied after the due date if no deposit is paid and tuition hasn’t been submitted. If a deposit is paid, late charges will be applied after the first scheduled lesson of the month (regardless of whether or not you attend), if tuition still hasn’t been paid.

Discounts cannot be combined with any other discount or offer for any reason. If you qualify for a promotion or discount and your tuition is less than the current rates stated above, you are considered to have discounted tuition.

Payments can be made by cash, check, direct deposit, or through Paypal. Please ask for direct deposit or Paypal information if you would like to go that route. All checks should be made out to Lora Ennis or Ennis Music Studio. Check payments can be placed in the lockbox located between the first door on the right and the bookcase when the studio is open. If the studio is closed, check payments can be placed in the mailbox or slid under the door. Credit/Debit card payments can be made in person or over the phone, but require an additional fee. Tuition includes a scheduled time of private lesson instruction thirty-nine weeks of the year.If extra rehearsals are needed, an additional fee will be charged at the teacher’s discretion. All supplies and other fees (Books, Performance fees) are not included in tuition and will be charged as needed. Tuition is due by the last day of the month for the following month. Ex. Tuition for January is due December 31st. Late payments of tuition will void any promotion/coupon/discount and result in your tuition being raised to the current rate(s) stated above. Lessons following the due date of tuition or the grace period (if a deposit was paid) will not be taught, if tuition has not been paid. Any missed lessons due to late tuition will NOT be rescheduled or made-up.

Festival, Piano Guild, & Recitals: All of these events are optional. During these events, students are graded by judges and given valuable feedback. Students may choose to participate in as few or as many events as are available; however, I may recommend certain events for each student. I strongly encourage each of you to participate in these events as they provide us with a goal to work toward during our lessons to vary us from the monotony that standard lessons can become as well as continue your musical education through acquiring performance experience. There is a $10 membership fee which will be chargedannually to every student (with September tuition or upon enrollment) for membership to the National Federation of Music Clubs and Georgia Federation of Music Clubs. This membership allows you to participate in festival and other events sponsored by these organizations. Because Ennis Music Studio must be signed up as a whole, all students are required to pay this fee regardless of whether or not you plan to participate in these events. This fee is not your registration fee for the event that you choose to participate; it only allows you the opportunity to participate. Registration fees vary, but for festival last year, fees were $15 per event. Registration fees are billed about a month prior to the event in which you choose to participate.

TERMINATION OF LESSONS: You may terminate lessons at any time; however, you are enrolled for lessons and required to make monthly payments for lessons until you notify me of the termination. I would prefer that you give me as much notice as possible, if you must terminate lessons, so that I can fill your time slot with someone on my waiting list. However, I understand that in some circumstances, it is unavoidable. I do not give your lesson time to someone else until you notify me that you want to terminate lessons. Therefore, you are responsible for payment of lessons until I am notified. If you terminate lessons during the middle of the month, you are liable for that month of tuition and will not receive a partial refund, if you have paid ahead. If you miss any lessons and mid-month decide to terminate lessons, you are still responsible for that month of tuition. By paying your tuition, attending lessons, or not terminating your lessons prior to the first lesson of the month, you are committing to lessons for that month. Cancellations are not considered termination. No refunds will be given for any reason.

I may terminate lessons at any time and for any reason. If the offense is serious enough for me to terminate lessons during the middle of the month, lessons for the remainder of the month will not be taught or refunded. Lessons may be terminated for any of the following reasons but are not limited to these examples: numerous late payments; student’s lack of practicing; numerous absents without notice; being disrespectful to anyone attending the Ennis Music Studio function; misuse of private lesson, group lesson, recital, or festival facilities.

HOLIDAYS AND WEEKS OFF: Below is the schedule for the upcoming year. 45 lessons are scheduled each year. 4 group lesson dates are scheduled each year. We are closed the other 6 weeks of the year. The 6 weeks we are closed will not be rescheduled and do not affect the monthly tuition, as your budget friendly tuition only includes 45 private lessons and 4 group lessons per year. Please be sure to read the schedule and marked it on your calendar so you know what days that you will have lessons.

I know all of that was a lot for you to read; it was a lot for me to write. It is my hope that, with your commitment to my studio as a parent and student, I will be able to run my studio more efficiently and be able to put my concentration more on your child’s instruction, instead of dealing with rescheduling, late payments, etc. The study of music is rewarding and enjoyable, but it is also WORK! Each student should consider it a serious commitment. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the studio policy, please contact me. I look forward to another great year with you and your child!
