Culminating Assignment CHC2P: Historical Trading Cards

Topic Question: Which events that we studied are most responsible for the Canada we are today?

Task: Historical events change who we are. Changes can be caused by a person, groups of people (refugees after World War 2) or an event (a battle, a technological creation, or artistic expression). We progressed through 20th Century Canadian History and now you will analyze, interpret, and evaluate how people, groups, and events and issues helped transform Canada. As you do this you will choose four (one from each unit) as your four trading cards. You must argue what the four you choose are the most important things that changed Canada within this time period.

Product: each trading card should include: a picture, a brief description of topic and your reason for choosing it, a commentary explaining how this helps you answer the chapter question,

Card 1 WW1: Battle of the air, Battle of the Somme, Battle of Vimy Ridge, Passchendaele, Life in the trenches, The home front, Role of women

Card 2 Twenties and Thirties: Winnipeg general Strike, Prohibition, Persons Case, Fashion, The Great Depression, Canadian Inventors

Card 3 WW2 / Cold War: Holocaust, D-Day, Battle of the Atlantic, Dieppe Raid, The Cold War

Card 4: Baby Boom, Teenagers, Cuban Missile Crisis, Vietnam War, Canadians: Citizens of the World

Step 1: Choose a topic (5 minutes)

Step 2: Research/review topic (20 minutes)

Step 3: Fill in graphic organizer (25 minutes)

Step 4: Cut and paste to rough draft (10 minutes)

Step 5: Edit (10 minutes)

Step 6: Repeat
