Uploading Users into Study Island

Before You Start

  • Microsoft Excel and comma delimited text files are supported.
  • Students and teachers must be in separate files. Teachers must also be assigned a grade level; however, they will not be restricted to that level.
  • Do not include formatting such as borders or hidden columns and/or blank cells within your data range.
  • When uploading Microsoft Excel files, please put all data in the first sheet of the document.
  • Do not put more than 15,000 records in a single file.
Database File Requirements

Accepted File Formats:comma delimited text file, Microsoft Excel. Students and teachers must be in separate files.

Required Database Fields

*Note: Each cell in the first row must be unique.

  1. FirstName- first name of user.
  2. LastName- last name of user.
  3. Grade- grade level of user, which must be one of the following: K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.
  4. School- school name of the user. Any value will do because you'll map the value to the appropriate school during the upload process.
OR
  1. FullName- full name of user with the last name first.
  2. Grade- grade level of user, which must be one of the following: K, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12.
  3. School- school name of the user. Any value will do because you'll map the value to the appropriate school during the upload process.
Optional Database Fields
  1. Username- if omitted a unique username will be generated.
  2. Password- if omitted the default password you select will become the password for all users.
  3. SIS Primary Key- if your school's Student Information System has a unique ID for each student, you can include it in the database file. This is optional and will allow you to upload a complete student list without duplicating existing users as long as the SIS Primary Key remains the same.
  4. Homeroom- a class name in which to place the student. If the class does not exist, it will be created.
  5. Gender- for reporting purposes only.
  6. Ethnicity- for reporting purposes only.
  7. Economically Disadvantaged- for reporting purposes only.
  8. Title I students- for reporting purposes only.
  9. Migratory Student- for reporting purposes only.
  10. Gifted/Talented- for reporting purposes only.
  11. Special Education- for reporting purposes only.
  12. LEP/ELL- for reporting purposes only.

Click on “Import Users”.

Click on “Browse” to select file. Then click on “Upload Database File”.
