The purpose of this meeting is to present and vote on the 2014/2015 budget. The proposed budget was presented. It was put together at the last meeting which took place on Wednesday, October 29, 2014.
Connie (co-chair) presented each line item beginning with technology.
Margaret suggested changing some line items (ie. Grade 8 trip subsidy)
Ms. Martin and both co-chairs (Connie & Nina) had met with the Grade 8 teachers regarding their own fundraising for the Quebec trip. We have about 13 families that require assistance. The trip costs approximately $700 per student.
It was agreed that the budget should be re-visited every month.
CSAC to purchase software to present the financials. It was proposed that financials be available online for all parents to see (read-only). It was agreed by all to maintain the integrity of St. Robert’s CSAC.
Member presented that the board is for school community and it is a non-profit organization. If parents care to know, they will attend the meetings. Member did agree that financials should be published online for information purposes.
Connie stated that the vote on the budget should be based on the greater good of the whole school.
Motion passed to vote on the budget presented with understanding that it will be open to be amended at a future date.
Dino suggested revising fundraising numbers to more realistic numbers. There was a motion to have monthly lunch special of pizza and popcorn. It was not agreed upon but that popcorn could be sold on a regular basis.
FundScrip was presented as a fundraiser which could commence in November. Gift cards are purchased online and the school will receive a percentage of the sales depending on the retail card purchased.
It was suggested to ear-mark expenses that may not be realized (ie. School/revitalization backyard field).
If Grade 8 fundraising comes short for the Quebec Trip, CSAC agrees to give the funds, by allowing the funds from a dress-down day to go to them or one day of lunch lady revenues.
Clothing for families in need can be donated to Ms. Martin in the office. The clothing will be distributed to families identified by social worker and Ms. Martin.
A suggestion was made for the printer cartridge recycling for fundraising.
The following items were agreed to be re-visited at the next meeting:
- Grade 8 graduation increased to $2,000
- Robotics Club increased to $1,000 (2 kits)
- Career Day $200
- Risers $2,100
- Apple Software $500
