Who is CAMH?

The Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) is Canada's leading addiction and mental health teaching hospital, with central facilities in Toronto. CAMH combines clinical care, research, education, policy development and health promotion to help transform the lives of people affected by mental health and addiction issues.

What does the CAMH online training include?

The online courses are interactive and engaging. In each course, participants will have access to topic overviews, web-based resources, interaction with facilitator-clinicians and other participants, and supplementary readings. The courses are generally organized into 8 modules, with each module lasting one week. There are two additional weeks to give participants an opportunity to remain current in the course. The Concurrent Disorders Core Course has 12 modules covered in a 14-week period, and the Collaborating with Families Affected by Concurrent Disorders course has 6 modules covered in an 8-week period.

Once the course begins, students can access and participate in the course at any time -- participants typically log on to the course a few times each week to read material, post their responses to activities, and read and respond to other postings. Course facilitators are active in moderating the discussions, answering questions, and sharing clinical expertise. CAMH online courses are professional and rigorous, with readings and required participation in discussion forums. Estimate your time commitment to be a minimum of 3-4 hours per week. You may need to use personal time if you are not able to complete all of the course requirements during work time.

Courses

There will be a maximum of 20 participants in each course. Participants will be from Saskatchewan health regions and other service agencies in the province.

Registration costs for the training will be paid for through funding provided by the Saskatchewan Ministry of Health. It is important that potential students recognize the investment being made by the Ministry/Regional Health Authorities in the continuing education of Mental Health & Addiction Services staff. The investment for each student’s participation in a course is just over $360 (this includes registration fees to CAMH, administrator contract fee, and facilitator training costs).

NOTE: If a student registers for a course and later withdraws or does not complete the course, their health region/agency will be charged $200.

It is suggested that participants have basic computer skills; however, the courses are easy to navigate and user-friendly, and technical support is available. The first module of each course provides an orientation to the learning management system and the features of the online course environment. Course content has been modified to reflect Saskatchewan information where relevant.
