Describing art work template

This is an essay template in order to refer specifically to one piece of work by an artist/ designer/ craft person or a culture studied by a pupil. The template refers to elementary matters such as specifying the title and date as well as the 5 visual elements (Colour, Form and Shape, Line, Texture and Tone) so that pupils become familiar with these and recognize them when reading pieces of art work.

Compare and contrast

This presentation is an example of using two pieces of art work on the same theme which is relevant to the pupil’s work. Ideally, the two pieces should be of work over time or of different styles, although the themes are the same. Teachers could use this to introduce a lesson or the pupils could use it to present information to the rest of the class.

Compare and contrast

A template which matches the presentation.

AEMS

An example of Iwan Bala’s work, using AEMS’s plan. The letters AEMS represent Aim, Elements, (the 5 visual elements) Medium and Style. The presentation can be used during a lesson to analyse specific work, with the pupils completing it as a task in class.

AEMS

The template and the notes are an easy way for pupils to remember how to analyse the work of an artist they have studied.

Writing about art

A document to support the need to show evidence of contextual understanding which is the ability to understand the work of artists, craftspeople and designers.
