Copy, Zip, and Upload
How to copy, zip, and upload data to PROFIT
Disclaimer: This document describes one way to copy, zip, and upload files. Uploading to our FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is best with a high-speed internet connection.
- Create a folder on your desktop:
· Right-click on a blank space on your desktop
· Click on New/Folder
· Type your PROFITsystems customer ID as the folder name
- Copy and paste the files:
· We need the .dat, .ddf, and .mkd files:
§ Double-click on the My Computer icon
§ Double-click on the drive that RETAILvantage is on
§ Double-click on the RV2012 folder, then the Data folder, then the Live folder
(Verify Live directory. Do you have multiple stores?)
§ Click on View/Details
§ Click on Type to sort the list by file type
§ Find the first .dat file, click on it
§ Hold down your shift key, then scroll down to the last .dat file and click on it
(This will highlight all of the .dat files)
§ With all of the .dat files highlighted, click on Edit/Copy
§ Minimize this window
§ Go back to your desktop
§ Double-click on the folder you created on the desktop
§ Click on Edit/Paste (It could take several minutes for the files to copy)
§ Go back to the window with the Live Folder
§ Find the first .ddf file, click on it
§ Hold down your shift key, then scroll down to the last .ddf file and click on it
§ With all of the .ddf files highlighted, click on Edit/Copy
§ Go back to your desktop
§ Double-click on the folder you created on the desktop
§ Click on Edit/Paste
§ Find the first .mkd file, click on it
§ Hold down your shift key, then scroll down to the last .mkd file and click on it
§ With all of the .mkd files highlighted, click on Edit/Copy
§ Go back to your desktop
§ Double-click on the folder you created on the desktop
§ Click on Edit/Paste
- Zip the files:
Zipping compresses the files, which makes uploading them a lot faster.
· In the folder that you just copied all of the files into, click on Edit/Select All to highlight all of the files
· With all of the files highlighted, click on File/Send to/Compressed (zipped) Folder
· This will create a .zip file in the same folder (This could take several minutes.)
· After the .zip file is created, right click on it and rename it to be your PROFITsystems customer ID
· The reason for putting the customer ID rather than the store name is to ensure your privacy. The FTP website can be accessed and seen by all of our customers.
· If you are working with a support rep at PROFITsystems, you can also put their name in the name of the file, e.g. 0999 for Michelle.zip
· Right-click on the new .zip file, and choose copy
- Upload to FTP:
· Click on Start/Run
· Type in ftp://support.profitsystems.com
· Click the OK button
· Enter the following User Name and Password
User Name: upload, Password: uploaddata
· Click on Edit/Paste (This could take several minutes)
· After confirming that the file was received by PROFITsystems, you can delete the folder on your desktop.
