Developing

English Resilience

CPD opportunities for GCSE & Functional Skills

English teachers

WMCETT are inviting expressions of interest from organisations wishing to host our CPD modules aimed at developing learners’ resilience in learning English.

English Resilience describes a positive stance towards learning English that enables learners to overcome deep-seated negative attitudesandanxiety about studying the subject. It is based on the extensively researched idea that in order to be resilient a learner must:

  • hold a growth mindset
  • understand the personal value of English
  • understand how to work at English
  • be aware of and receiveappropriate support

The two-stage CPD programme aims to raise teachers’ awareness of affective barriers to learningEnglish and develop practical classroom strategies to develop learners’ English resilience.

The programme is aimed at teachers of both Functional and GCSE English working in colleges, independent training providers, adult community learning or the secure estate. Learning support assistants willalso benefit from attending the programme.
