COURSE DESCRIPTION AND OVERVIEW

The purpose of the study of algebra is to develop methods to find the value of an unknown quantity (or quantities) by applying basic field properties of real numbers, along with graphical application and interpretation of such quantities and variables. Mastery of algebra is critical for success in any math course you take in the future.

GRADING CATEGORIES

Formative assessments (quizzes) and summative assessments (tests) will be given, along with benchmark exams and a final exam. A suggested study guide to review for these exams would consist of your notes, classwork, and homework for that unit.

GRADING

The overall semester grade will be broken down as follows:

Assignments, Classwork, Homework (Practice) = 10% of semester grade

Quizzes (Formative Assessments) = 15% of semester grade

Tests AND Final (Summative Assessments) = 75% of semester grade

Once the overall semester percentage grade is tabulated and rounded to the nearest percent, the corresponding letter grade for the course will be assigned according to the following scale:

A90% and higher

B80% – 89.99%

C70% – 79.99%

D60% – 69.99%

F59.99% and lower

HOMEWORK & NOTES:

Homework will be checked in one of the following ways on a regular basis:

●Homework quizzes

●Notebook Checks will be given at random (this means any day, anytime)

●Homework/classwork is usually given every night except on exam or quiz days

●Exams are given at the end of each chapter

●IF YOU ARE ABSENT, IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO SEE YOUR TEACHER AND CHECK GOOGLE CLASSROOM! MAKE UP ASSIGNMENTS OR TESTS WILL BE TURNED IN DEPENDING ON HOW MANY DAYS ABSENT. YOU WILL BE GIVEN AN EQUITABLE NUMBER OF MAKE UP DAYS CONSISTENT WITH NUMBER OF DAYS ABSENT. TESTS/QUIZZES MUST BE MADE UP ON THE DAY YOU RETURN TO SCHOOL.
