List of the required documents to apply for the Italian Citizenship by birth for the residents of this consular area, born in Québec from Italian parent/s still Italian at the moment of their birth

PARENTS’ DOCUMENTS

1) Italian birth certificates;

2)Italian passport used upon arrival in CanadaOR certificate attesting the Italian citizenship before the arrival in Canada, issued by the municipality of last residence in Italy;

3)“certificato storico di residenza” issued by the municipality of last residence in Italy (not necessary if in possession of the passport – see #2);

4)“landed immigrant paper” received upon arrival in Canada (immigrant reçu) (not necessary if in possession of thepassport – see #2);

5)“copie d’acte de mariage” or “copy of an act of marriage” if parents married in Québec or photocopy of the Italian marriage certificate. If parents married elsewhere, submit original certificate, duly translated and legalized by the competent Italian Consulate;

6)“copie d’acte de déces” or “copy of an act of death” if parents passed away in Québec or photocopy of the Italian death certificate. If parents passed away elsewhere, submit original certificate, duly translated and legalized by the competent Italian Consulate;

7)Canadian Citizenship certificate,with the complete date of the naturalization (day, month, year). If you don’t have such documents or if the parents never applied for the Canadian citizenship, you have to submit a “record letter”, issued by Immigration Canada.

APPLICANT’S DOCUMENTS

1) “copie d’acte de naissance” or “copy of an act of birth” and subsequent “copies of act” (marriage, childrens’ births, etc.) if the applicant was born and married in Québec. If bornelsewhere, submit the birthcertificate in long form and other certificates of vital records duly translated and legalized by the competent Italian Consulate;

2) valid passport and proof of residence (driver’s license or utility bill);

3) Formulario, dulyfilled out (it will be dated and signed in front of the consular employee);

4) Modulo informativo anagrafico, duly filled out (it will be dated and signed in front of the consular employee).

If the applicant is requesting the Italian citizenship starting from another generation, it will be necessary to submit all the documents between the generations.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

- Starting July 8th, 2014, the application will have a fee of Euros 300 (Law June 23rd 2014, n. 89),

payable in cash in Canadian Dollars the day of the appointment.

- Please, verify that the documents show no mistakes.

- Foreign documents must be submitted in original.

- All acts of birth, marriage and death must bear an official legalization. Legalizations on acts issued in QC, NS, NB, NL, PEI and NU are done at this Consulate General and can be paid for in cash the day of the appointment. Acts issued in other Canadian provinces or in other countries must be submitted already legalized and with their official legalized translation.

- Incomplete applications won’t be accepted.

- Religious documents are not accepted.
