Part 1 – overview
Course description. Course focus and content, number of hours, place in overall program, pathway to further courses, accredited training or employment
This course is a basic Return to Study course targeting those wishing to enter study to become Community Services workers. The focus will be on informing learners about the career pathways available in Community Services and equiping them with the self managment, learning and planning, and IT skills to successfully complete a qualification of their choice.
The course will consist of 7 three hour sessions on Tuesdays 9.30am - 12.30pm
Planning and consultation. Process undertaken for course development/improvement
Community Services Trainers and workers from various sectors such as Early Childhood Education & Care, Disability, Aged Care, and Leisure and Health were consulted to pathways in the industries and invited to give short presentations in the course.
Prerequisites. Eg computer skills and access, literacy/numeracy levels etc
Learners are expected to have ACSF level 2.No other pre-requistes are nesessary
Teacher skills. Skills, experience, qualifications needed
At least one teacher will have substantial and evidenced experience and knowledge of CHC08 Community Services and teaching Return to Study Skills. Qualifications include
TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment
TAELLN401A unit is desirable and/or other LLN experience working with low level literacy learners
Graduate Certificate in Career Management
At least one teacher with substantial and evidenced experience and knowledge of IT & digital literacies especially in MICROSOFT OFFICE

Delivery. What teaching and learning approaches will you use?
Class room using as required, classroom lap tops. A collaborative approach will be used with guest speakers and small and large group work. Adult learning principles will be implicit in the teaching strategies where knowledge and the experiences of the learners will be used, explored and built upon. The learning will be scaffolded resulting in a personal port folio. The Port Folio is demonstratable evidence of the engagement in the course.
Achievement of outcomes. How will you measure the outcomes?
Learners will produce a Port Folio showcasing documents that demonstate the outcomes such as a basic CV, a personal profile and career goal pathways.
Pre, mid course and post course Individual learner surveys of self efficacy in the world of study and work.
Evaluation. How will you evaluate the effectiveness of the course and plan improvements?
Ongoing assessment of learners progress by the teachers
Verbal and written feedback from learners
Enrolment into Community Services courses at morrisons

Learners may access other Registered Training Organisations that offer courses that suit their particular needs/career pathway. Learners will have identified these through the course and their port folios
Support provided
Further study support can be accessed through the coordinator of Community Services including informal career guidance.
