If you wish to take any quiz or test early, you will need to notify me at least three days in advance if the quiz or test is not posted.

NOTE: THERE WILL BE ABSOLUTELY NO MAKEUPS ON QUIZZES, MIDTERM, OR FINAL EXAMS. If you can’t take it on the due date, you will have to take it early! NO EXCEPTIONS OF ANY KIND FOR ANY REASON, SO DON’T ASK!

IMPORTANT: More information for Homework, Quizzes, Mid-Term, and Final may be found in our course on Blackboard under the “Course Information” button. You will want to understand this information.

Please use your book for extra practice and work the homework problems there but you do not have to turn these problems in to me.

TESTS: All tests will be on-line. The Mid-term and Final exams will also be on-line tests but you will have to come to one of the Math Labs or Testing Centers to take them. They will be password protected. Only TCC Math Lab or Testing Center staff will know the password. Specific instructions will be given closer to test time. If you live out of town and are unable to go to the Math Lab or Testing Center to take the test, you will have to find a suitable proctor to administer the test. If the later is the situation, you will need to notify me within the first two weeks of class who the proctor will be in order to receive departmental approval.

A practice midterm and a practice final will be posted. The practice tests will not be calculated into your grade but instead used as extra bonus points at the end of the semester. For example, if you score a 78% on the practice midterm you will receive 7.8 bonus points at the end of the semester. The same scenario applies to the practice final. Thus, you may receive up to 10 bonus points based on your practice midterm and practice final.

You may not use notes or your textbook while taking the test. Scratch paper will be provided by the lab and will have to be turned in when you are through taking the test. CALCULATORS WILL BE ALLOWED (except on Part 1 of the midterm)!

VERY IMPORTANT for taking Midterm and Final! You will need to be ready to sit through the entire test with no breaks. The program will not allow for you to stop and restart later. You will be given only one chance to take the test, so do not make a mistake when starting the test. Make sure you know your user name and password to log in to Course Compass! The lab staff will enter the test password when you reach that point.

A photo ID is required to take the tests. You will be asked to leave your car keys for scratch paper. The staff will retain your keys until you return all your scratch paper back to the staff personal. Please put my name and your name on the scratch paper so they will know who to deliver it to.

TESTING SITES: For the Math Lab and/or Testing Center hours, sign in to Blackboard and look under the Course Information button. Sometimes they change their hours or have emergencies, therefore I suggest you call the Testing Center to verify the time you plan to take your test, especially if you are driving from out of town.

Calculators will be allowed, notes will not.

MATHEMATICS LEARNING RESOURCE CENTER: The TCC Math Labs are a great place to go for help. You may access the course web site using any one of the labs computers, each will have all necessary plug-ins installed. The Lab also has various study aids specific to topics in this course. There are videos and self-paced tutorial computer programs for other textbooks that you can use as well. Friendly Lab Assistants are on staff to assist you with your questions. Students are encouraged to take advantage of this FREE facility. No appointments are needed. Please be sure to sign in and out and follow lab rules concerning food in the computer areas. For the Math Lab hours, sign in to Blackboard and look under the “Course Information” button. Call the lab you plan to visit for current hours as they are subject to change.

COMPUTER SERVICES ACCEPTABLE USE: Access to computing resources is a privilege granted to all TCC faculty, staff, and students. Use of TCC computing resources is limited to purposes related to the College's mission of education, research, and community service. Student use of technology is governed by the Computer Services Acceptable Use Statements/Standards found in the TCC Student Code of Conduct Policy Handbook. These handbooks may be obtained by contacting any Student Activities or Dean of Student Services office.

LATE ASSIGNEMENT & MAKE-UP POLICY: Tests may not be made up or taken late! If you must miss a chapter quiz, that score will be replaced by your final exam score. If another chapter quiz or exam is missed; it will be recorded as a zero. Students who take all chapter quizzes may use their final exam score to replace one chapter quiz score that is lower. The mid-term may not be made up or replaced with the final exam. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS TO THIS POLICY, THERFORE DO NOT ASK!

ATTENDANCE/PARTICIPATION POLICY:

Students are expected to actively participate on a weekly basis. It is the student’s responsibility to keep up to date on all assignments and aware of all announcements made throughout the semester. Failure to actively participate may result in dismissal from the class or a grade of “F”.

WITHDRAWAL, AUDIT, AND IMCOMPLETE POLICY: To withdraw from class, a student should initiate an official withdrawal through the counseling office; non-participation does not constitute official withdrawal. Failure of active participation in the class may result in the student receiving a “WN” after two weeks of non-participation. Issuing an “AW”, administrative withdrawal, is at the discretion of the Instructor and is not intended to replace a failing grade.

To request a change to Audit, a student must be maintaining a passing grade.

Incompletes will not be given under any circumstances.

The last day to withdraw or change to an audit for the spring 2013 semester is Friday, April 12, 2013.

Course Withdrawal: The deadline to withdraw from a course shall not exceed 3/4 the duration of any class. Check the TCC Academic Calendar for the deadline that applies to the course(s). Begin the process with a discussion with the faculty member assigned to the course. Contact the Advisement Office at any TCC campus to initiate withdrawal from a course ('W' grade) or to change from Credit to Audit. Withdrawal and/or change to an audit from a course after the drop/add period can alter the financial aid award for the current and future semesters. Students may receive an outstanding bill from TCC if the recalculation leaves a balance due to TCC. Students who stop participating in the course and fail to withdraw may receive a course grade of “F,” which may have financial aid consequences for the student.

COMMUNICATIONS:

Email: All TCC students receive a designated TCC Outlook address (ex: ). All communications to you about TCC and course assignments will be sent to your TCC Outlook email address; and you must use TCC Outlook email to send email to, and receive email from, the instructor regarding this course.
