BOARD OF EDUCATION
October 24, 2017
The Braxton County Board of Education met on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at the Braxton
County Board of Education Office. The following members were present:
Jill Cooper, President
Dave Hoover, Vice President
Shane Brown
Van Carr - Absent
Brad Shingler
Jill Cooper called the regular board meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
Jill Cooper led the Pledge of Allegiance.
Dave Hoover led a non-denominational prayer.
Shane Brown moved to convene into executive session under 6-9A-4 (2)(A) for personnel
and 6-9A-4 (2) (B) and 6-9A-4 (3) student issues. Brad Shingler seconded the motion.
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
The Board convened into executive session at 6:03 p.m.
Brad Shingler moved and Shane Brown seconded to reconvene into regular session.
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
The Board reconvened into regular session at 8:13 p.m. with no action taken.
Superintendent David Dilly gave the Board an update on the personnel investigation.
Robert and Jeanette Boyce and Anthony Salvatore, signed in as a delegation regarding school issues. Candace Wimmer signed in as a delegation regarding personnel issue.
Christina Bailey, Head Start Director, gave the Board a packet of Head Start reports including bills, enrollment, nutrition, health and other information.
Dave Hoover moved and Brad Shingler seconded to approve the consent agenda items
(approval of October 10, 2017 meeting minutes, payment of bills, budget
transfers and supplements, transportation requests and Treasurer’s Report).
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
Dave Hoover moved and Shane seconded to approve the following personnel actions:

Dawn Cutlip –Secretary at Burnsville Elementary effective October 30, 2017
Resignations – Professional:
1. Minnie Coffman – 21st Century Positive Youth Behavior/Healthy Lifestyles Instructor at
Flatwoods Elementary effective retroactive October 9, 2017
2. Cory Stout – Substitute Teacher effective October 25, 2017

1. Judy Shafer – Mentor Teacher effective October 25, 2017

Brad Shingler moved and Dave Hoover seconded to approve fundraisers for Davis
Elementary, Flatwoods Elementary, BCMS and BCHS.
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
Shane Brown moved and Brad Shingler seconded to approve the following parent volunteers for 2017-18 school year per background check:

Superintendent Dilly reported on “Handle With Care” and Sutton Elementary Ribbon Cutting.
Brad Shingler moved and Shane Brown seconded to adjourn.
Vote: 4-0. Motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 8:22 p.m.
The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. at the
Board Office, 98 Carter Braxton Drive, Sutton.
