Parents,

Today I’m sending home scrapbooking ideas for your child. The children have a major project due in reading. They are going to create a scrapbook based on the book they are reading. They can use one of the journals you purchased at the beginning of the year, or anything else he/she wants to use for a scrapbook.

If your child is reading the following book, this is the number of pages that are due per chapter:

Counting by 7’s – one scrapbook page per 3 chapters for a total of 20 pages

Stealing Home – The Jackie Robinson Story – 2 pages per chapter for a total of 20 pages

Sounder – Two pages per chapter for a total of 16 pages

Gathering Blue - one page per chapter for a total of 23 pages

Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry – two pages per chapter for a total of 24 pages

Out of My Mind – One page for every two chapters for a total of 17 pages

Where the Mountain Meets the Moon – One page for every two chapters for a total of 24 pages

Mighty Miss Malone – One page for every two chapters for a total of 16 pages

Of course, you can always do more. This is the minimum requirement.

I will check the scrapbook twice during this nine weeks. Once, on Tuesday, November 14th, for half of the scrapbook – G2 grade and once on Tuesday, December 12th, when the entire scrapbook will be due for a G2 grade. The children need to scrapbook using the book they are reading for literature circles. Any late work will have a point deduction of ten points per day.

They have seven weeks to work on this project. The work for this project will be done at home. But, PLEASE, let it be your child’s work. You aren’t getting the grade, so you shouldn’t do the work. I will NOT be grading for artistic ability, but neatness will count. Your child can and should do his/her own work. The reading for this project can be done at school or at home. Please sign below acknowledging that you are aware of this assignment.

I have given the children scrapbooking ideas, templates and shown them several examples of the scrapbooks that were completed before. If you want to come into the classroom to see the example scrapbooks, please feel free to do so.

Thank you for your help with this project.

Sincerely,

Melanie Bray

I have read and understand that this project will be due on Tuesday, November 14th and Tuesday, December 12th for two G2 grades.
