Cool Tools Lesson Plan

Universal Expectation: Be Safe

Name of the Skill/Setting: Lunch Line Up

·  Purpose of the lesson/Why it’s important: It is important to walk quietly so other classes will not be disturbed.
·  It is important to hold your coat at your side, with mittens and hats tucked in the sleeve so that your clothes are not stepped on and do not get lost.
·  It is important to keep our hands at our sides so that art work on the walls is not disturbed.
Teaching Examples:
1. Web with respect in the middle. Explain this is one of the 3 school expectations. Ask, “How can we be safe when we walk to lunch?” As students respond with correct procedures, put them on the web.
Kid Activities/Role-Plays:
1. When students give a correct response, ask them to model it. Then ask other students, “What did he/she do correctly?”
2. Teacher models what not to do. Students volunteer corrections.
3. Ask a student to model how to put hat and mittens in sleeve and hold it by their side.
4. Repeat student feedback.
Follow-Up Reinforcement Activities:
·  Silent mouse. One student walks up and down the line looking for students that are following the procedure. After a few minutes, they can select a student to replace themselves, and re-enter the line.
·  Tickets for students following procedures.
