Take Action: Design a Posterfor raising awareness on Child Refugees(25 minutes)

Objective: / Students apply the knowledge learnt and design a poster to raise awareness of child refugees’issues.
Students are encouraged to display the posters in the classroom or school notice boards during the World Refugee Day (June 20) to invoke other students’ interest on the issue.

Rundown:

  1. Introduce the learning objective of this lesson.

Divide the class into groups of 4 – 6 students. Teacher distributes one A3 blank paper, colour pens andStudent Handoutsto each group.

2.Students design a poster with the aim to raise awareness of the various issues of child refugees. They may refer to the Student Handouts while drafting the design.

  1. Encourage students to design a creative poster, while fulfilling the following objectives:

(1)Enableaudiencesto understand any 1 challenge that child refugees face.
(e.g. bombing threat/ drowning/ lost the learning opportunities/ separate with family)

(2)Enhanceaudiences’awareness of theSyria Refugee Crisis

(3)Suggest at least 1 ideathat audiencescan do to help the Syrian child refugees

(4) Use attractive design
Time for design: around 15 minutes

  1. Group Sharing: Invite each group to presenttheir poster design and share their messages.
  1. Extended Learning:

Ask students to present their posters and then vote for the best poster design.

Teacher encourages students to display the best poster design in the classroom or school notice boards on World Refugee Day (June 20) to raise otherstudents’ awareness of the issue.
