Pre-Competition Activity
Competition Equipment and Setup Arrangements
PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT THE BRIEF FOR THE 2014 COMPETITION
No computers should have access to the Internet
Room Setup
Every competitor will require a laptop, workstation, server, switch, printer and webcam.
· Workstations must be numbered 1 to 8
· Require:
o Antistatic equipment: wristband, mat
o Tool Set (at least a Pozi-drive No1 point screwdriver)
o CAT5e cable and plugs
o Tools to make a network cable
o Cable tester (can be shared between competitors)
o Digital multi-meter
o Spare Screws
o 24 spare straight through cables for connecting the laptop, workstation and server to the switch.
o 8 copies of Driver CD for laptops
o 8 copies of Driver CD for workstations
o 8 copies of Driver CD for server
o 16 copies of Windows 7 CD for laptops and workstations
o 8 copies of Server 2008 CD
o 8 copies of Office 2010 or 2007 CD
o 8 copies of network printer driver CD.
o 8 copies of graphics adapter driver CD
o 8 copies of network adapter driver CD
Laptop (per competitor)
The laptop will have no software installed (operating system and drivers).
· Capable of running Windows 7
· In the BIOS disable the LAN, hard-drives.
· Should have a blank hard-drive
Workstation (per competitor)
The workstation will be stripped down to the empty case.
· Motherboard User Manual
· Capable of running Windows 7
· In the BIOS disable the LAN, hard-drives.
· Should have built in SATA connections
· Should have a blank hard-drive
· Should have a separate internal DVD ROM
· Should have a separate graphics adapter
· Should have a separate wired network adapter
· Should have 2GB of memory.
· Provide a monitor, keyboard and mouse.
Server (per competitor)
The server will be stripped down to the empty case.

· Capable of running Windows Server 2008 R2.
· In the BIOS disable the LAN, hard-drives.
· Should have a blank hard-drive
· Should have built in SATA connections
· Should have a separate internal DVD ROM
· Should have a separate graphics adapter
· Should have a separate wired network adapter
· Should have 2GB of memory.
· Should have a monitor, keyboard and mouse.
