Compact, high-performance and highly efficient

SEW-EURODRIVE is expanding its modular motor system in efficiency class IE3 by adding the DRN.. series.

Bruchsal, Hannover Messe Trade Fair 2015: SEW-EURODRIVE is expanding its comprehensive portfolio of AC motors by adding new units in energy efficiency class IE3. The AC motors in the DRN.. series from SEW have been optimized in dimensions, weight and performance. They can be integrated easily into machines and systems and enable energy-efficient operation.

SEW-EURODRIVE introduced its DR.. modular motor system back in 2008. It is now the only system of its kind worldwide that satisfies the requirements of all efficiency classes from standard to super premium efficiency in a single product range. The motors are always able to use the same additional features, which simplifies the stocking of spare and wear parts. This represents a significant cost benefit for suppliers and end customers.

The new DRN.. motors are as compact as an IE2 energy efficiency class motor of the same power rating, as powerful as always with certifications and additional features, and as efficient as ever in fulfilling the requirements dictated by the law and relevant standards. The new IE3 AC motors are available in the power range between 0.75 and 200 kW, and can be combined with SEW gear units using direct mounting in the usual way or used as stand-alone motors.

In the European Economic Area (EEA), energy efficiency class IE3 "Premium Efficiency" has been prescribed for asynchronous AC motors with squirrel-cage rotors since January 1, 2015. According to EU Motor Regulation 640/2009, this requirement applies to 2-, 4- and 6-pole motors with a power rating of 7.5 kW to 375 kW in continuous duty operation with a constant load at the power source. As an alternative to the IE3 efficiency level at the power source, the Motor Regulation also allows operation of IE2 efficiency level motors with a frequency inverter. Like all motor manufacturers, SEW-EURODRIVE has equipped these motors with IE2 VSD stickers (agreed with the manufacturer) from January 1, 2015 onwards. The user, however, is ultimately responsible for complying with the requirements of the EU Regulation. Exceptions continue to apply for motors integrated fully into machines, brake motors and motors fully immersed in liquid for operation purposes or motors certified in accordance with ATEX Directive 94/9/EC.
