New Mystery Photo solved!
Our newest mystery photo was solved by Westport Fire Chief Brian Legendre on 03/08/11 at 09:43 a.m.
His guess, "It is the old civil defense air raid siren, there are two in town. One at the corner of Hixbribge and Main Rd and one at the corner of Briggs Rd and Rt 88 near the Briggs Rd fire station. They both have been disconnected and are no longer in use."
Chief Legendre, just barely beating out many other correct guesses, wins a $25 gift certificate to the Back Eddy Restaurant (opening March 25), Westport's most unique harborside fine-dining experience offering the best in seafood and traditional fare.
According to local historian CukieMacomber, "the sirens were installed at the beginning of World War II as the government had a great concern about attacks by enemy aircraft. My father's garage at the current location of Pine Hill Gas also had an air horn, which we still have today."
Look for a new mystery photo to be posted any day now!
Get ready to email your guess now!

Our previous Mystery Photo was solved Friday, February 11, 2011 at 2:46 p.m. by Nadine Castro of Westport. She was the first to correctly guess that the location of the farm-style Westport snowman was on Pine Hill Road, and won the $25 gift certificate to Partners Village Store and Kitchen, the area's destination point for specialty gifts, books, and great kitchen.
Unlike our previous mystery photo, many knew the location, but Nadine was the most nimble on the keyboard.
As for the "haybale" snowman, he may not fear the great spring melt, but he better be on the lookout for hungry cows.
Congratulations Nadine!
*Starting 02/11/2010 we will be limiting immediate families to one gift certificate won per month. EverythingWestport will be increasing the number of mystery photos this year and we would like everybody to have a chance at participating. Also, you may take as many guesses as you want for a mystery photo, but please only one guess at a time.

Life continually challenges us to live courageously, from our hearts, versus living in fear of “what’s to come.” Questions you will explore during this mini-series are:
  • How do we live joy-fully in the midst of everyday life?
  • How do we choose our own way and stay connected with others and ourselves in the midst of Life, especially when ‘Life Comes Knocking’ at our door?
  • How do we access that ‘something more’ that carries us and lifts us during difficult times?
  • How do we build community that supports each of us in times of difficulty and sorrow as well as times of joy and celebration?
Join Karen Moore Holliday, Pastor Katherine Mitchell and local practitioners Kerry Cudmore, Steve Martin, Kim Bella, Rhonda Matson-Plourde and Sheryl Worthington Turgeon in exploring our relationship with the experience of joy and abundance. Karen Moore Holliday is a local holistic practitioner, workshop leader and teacher. For over thirty years Karen has supported others through meditation, yoga, spiritual companionship, dream work and more in connecting with that which has heart and meaning for them. Katherine Mitchellhas been the pastor for the Westport Point United Methodist Church for the past four years. Her interest and focus reside in building a community of joy and justice.
