38 weeks, 6th February 2013- 6th December 2013,
Possible links to other providers short courses. This will depend of the learners needs, wants and interests. As this course is about finding the learners strengths and areas of interests for possible .employment or volunteering into the future.
Literacy Certificate II/II or III in General Education for Adults
Requirements / Pre-requisites, computer skills and access, literacy/numeracy levels etc
No pre-requisities, students who have low literacy skills will be supported with verbal discussions, pictures and mentored from the tutor, volunteer tutor and other students. The class can take students who have never used a computer before as a volunteer tutor is available for support. This class is about learning to learn
Tutor details / Skills, experience, qualifications
The Tutor would have Literacy and numeracy skills to at least a Cert III level, have the ability to manager challenaging behaviours and to work well with groups. Certificate IV in training and Assessment. Possibily a teaching degree but not necessary.

Outcomes / What do you want your learners to know and do as a result of the course?
It would be expected that learners would have an improved plan of personal goals and future plans for themselves. The learners will have an understanding of their own learning styles and personal skills. (Informal and Formal skills)
It is expected that learners will have a better understanding of the way computers work in general this would be through the exposure to the items during the course.
A good working knowledge and skills of digital devices (cameras, video cameras, iPods, ipads, etc) , an independent ability to access YouTube and Google.
Learners will have improved WORD processing skills.

What strategies will you use to build learners’ employability skills?
Technology- Students will use of digital cameras, laptops, internet, flip videos
Communication- Students will participate in discussions, verbal story telling, written English and negotiations
Learning- Students will learn new skills, new ideas, new experiences and investigate their personal learning style
Teamwork- Students will be working in groups, supporting others
Problem solving- Students will be developing solutions, evaluating results.
Planning and organising- Students will be participating in meeting timelines, monitoring own learning progress and setting personal and group goals.
Initiative and enterprise- Students will be adapting to change, translating ideas into actions, looking for creative solutions.
Self-management- Students will be setting goals, evaluating own progress, completing tasks
Delivery / What teaching and learning approaches will you use?
Classes will be held in a classroom setting with the exception to excursion that may be held at local areas of interest to the learners.
Teaching method will be modelled and HAVE A GO by the learners. Tutor will support individual needs of learners.
Assessment / How will you assess how well learners have achieved their outcomes?
Assessment will take place as an informal component of the class.
Checklists of skills and knowledge achieved by the conclusion of the course,
participation and involvement within the course will be observed and noted on a report at the conclusion of the course. Learners will produce a personal portfolio of future pathway options.
Evaluation / How will you evaluate the effectiveness of the course and plan improvements?
Student learners review (A-frame document) and the course evaluation form will be a main component of the evaluation as well as a focus group session with the participants at the conclusion of the course. On going evaluation from each session with improvements acted upon to ensure a successful class.
The organisation will be participating in local moderation of the A-frame documents and courses. This will be part of a local pre-accredited network.
Acknowledgement / How will you acknowledge what learners have achieved?
Students will receive a Certificate, a skills checklist, a portfolio of personal future pathway options. Students will take part in a display work throughout the year.
Impact / Where will this course lead for most learners? How can you provide support?
It would be planned that learners may more forward with further education or possibly participate in volunteering in an area that the learner has an interest in.
Students are particpating for varied reasons, social, personal development, outreach, skills building, employment options, knowledge widening, etc. I would forsee that many of the students would conintue with a similar pre-accredited course. The students may pathway through to accredited courses such as the Cert. in General Education for Adults, Cert II in Information Technology, Cert II in Hospitality, etc. If students did pathway through to Accredited courses and Literacy and Numeracy support was required then they would be able to enrol in a CGEA or Pre-accredited Literacy course which ever was appropriate for the individual. This organisation is happy to offer support in pathwaying students to other local providers, Swinburne, other Learn Local providers if they offered courses that our studnets wanted to access.
