Course Description: Common Core Math 3 continues students’ study of topics from algebra, geometry, and statistics in a problem-centered, connected approach. Functions, matrix operations, and algebraic representations of geometric concepts are the principle topics of study. Students will be expected to describe and translate among graphic, algebraic, numeric, tabular, and verbal representations of relationships and use those representations to solve problems. Appropriate technology, from manipulatives to calculators and application software, should be used regularly for instruction and assessment.
Course Goals:
- Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
- Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
- Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
- Model with mathematics.
- Use appropriate tools strategically.
- Attend to precision.
- Look for and make use of structure.
- Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.
Prerequisites:High School Sophomore or above

Student Expectations

- One Pack of Printing Paper, Any Color
- Calculator (Provided In Class, But Very Useful If Purchased TI-84 Plus)
- 5 Dividers
- Color Pencils
- Pencils for Math & Pens are for Projects
- Glue Sticks
- Index Cards and a Key Ring
Grading Criteria
Homework - 10% Quizzes - 10 % Projects – 20% Tests (Portfolios Included) -35% Classwork/Collaboration -25%
Please remember that the required state administered NC Final Exam(s) will count toward 25% of your final average.
Please remember that any student who has over 5 absences needs to make their time up
Policy for Make-up Work/Tests
Missed work/tests from an absence should be turned in no later than one week after returning to school.Work not turned in to the teacher will count as a 0. Their will be no retests.
