Rotor Commands

By using the rotor, you can select preferences when using Voice Over. For example, you can control the rate of speech if the rotor setting is enabled. Making use of the rotor expands the possibilities of IOS for students using Voice Over.

Commands to Know when using braille display with Voice Over:

_____Move to previous rotor setting = space + dot 3

_____Move to next rotor setting = space + dot 6

_____Select next rotor setting = space + dots 5 6

_____Select previous rotor setting = space + dots 2 3

Voice Over Rotor Settings Without using Braille Display:

_____1. Rotate thumb and forefinger to move among rotor settings. Move clock- wise or counter clock-wise.

_____2. To make a choice within the rotor setting, flick up or flick down.

Select what you want to be displayed when you use the rotor setting:

_____1. Open Settings.

_____2. Navigate to and open the General Settings.

_____3. At the bottom of the list, find Accessibility. Open this option.

_____4. Open Voice Over.

_____5. Open the "Rotor" option.

_____6. Select the items you want to be displayed when you use the rotor.

_____7. Use the "Back button" to go back.

_____8. Now when you use the rotor gesture or the braille keyboard, the options you selected will be given when you use the rotor.

Example of using rotor for a Book in Read2Go:

Use the rotor with or without a refreshable braille display.

_____1. Open Read2Go.

_____2. Open the Settings tab.

_____3. Open the "Audio Settings".

_____4. Turn "Read2Go" audio off.

_____5. Click the "Settings back button".

_____6. Open the "Bookshelf" tab.

_____7. Open the book you want to read.

_____8. Click the "Read" button.

_____10. Assuming you selected thes items in the rotor settings, you can gesture or use the keyboard command to move to lines, words, or characters.

_____11. Use space with dot 3 or space with dot 6 to read by the

Rotor item you landed on. If using voice over gestures, flick

Up or down to read by that choice.

Though this may not be the way you want to read, it's one way you can practice using the rotor.

If you selected voice rate and volume, you can practice changing them by moving the rotor to the volume or rate. Then flick up to make the voice faster or louder. Flick down to go the other way. Use braille ddisplay commands if you prefer.
