The Work Experience module is divided into a number of sections. Each section covers a specific area of the course and requires that you produce specific material.

Section 1 Planning and Preparation (15 Marks)

a.  Personal /Skills Audit; A brief personal profile detailing

·  Interests, talents and achievements (2)

·  Personal qualities, characteristics and values (2)

·  Life experiences – voluntary/part-time work, courses, hobbies, sporting activities (2)

·  Vocational skills and Transferable skills (2)

A Personal and Vocational Skills Table will be discussed and prepared in class which can be used to complete this section.

Section 3 Vocational Study (18 Marks)

a.  Summary of the basic rights and responsibilities of employees and employers in a particular work, organisational or institutional context (6)

·  Equality legislation

·  Union Representation

·  Other Employment Regulation Issues for example minimum wage, annual leave, maternity leave, parental leave

b.  Exploration of work organisations and career opportunities in a particular vocational area (6)

·  What are the 3 main types of work organisations in Ireland?

[Public, Private and Voluntary]

·  Describe the characteristics of each of the three types and include examples

  1. Analysis of the key challenges and opportunities facing a particular vocational area (6)

• Population change

• Immigration/emigration

• Economic changes – impact of recession

• Funding structures

• Education level of employees/qualifications

a.  Exploration of employment options in light of work experience (3)

a.  A Statement of Contractual Obligations. (2)

b.  A daily record of tasks performed and of challenges encountered. (6)
